Never tried it, i seen one screen shot a few years ago and all the fonts we're shit, players stats we're out of 100 and it had stupid things for stats, never looked at it since then.

When there was the split, the people who now many championship manager got the name only, the people at football manager got all the databases and all the true 'cm' stuff.

FM is the true successor to Champ Man after 03/4 - as has been said all Eidos got was the name, the code and database belonged to SI.

Having said that, I haven't actually bothered too much with the games since 03/4 (have had a brief look at FM2005 and 2007) because to be honest they're too complicated. You have to do so much tweaking in terms of training routines, tactics etc. - for each player - to get the best out of it that I lose interest and end up looking for training routines and tactics to download which is not really the point. I got bored with CM03/4 because once I had downloaded Scramjet it was simply too easy - but without a downloaded tactic it was too time-consuming to find out what worked. I'm currently more likely to load up CM00/01 than any other, as that hasn't got the same level of complexity that I find a turnoff....
