That was a success, your point was?

Next stop U2!!

I think you made your point an another thread, Leeds is only and hour away and Sunderland / Newcastle only and hour away from the rest of the Northeast with better venues so why go to the Elephant

It's not the best venue around but it's a venue and it's there to be used. I'm not suggesting we have one a month or something, maybe once or twice a year if it's viable.

can darlo really exist on gates of 2,500 in that stadium though ?

2 owners have already tried and gone busto.

i dont hate darlo, i dont really think about them much to be honest, but i cant see how this isnt all gonna end with them going into admin again.

Raj has apparently done his sums and given us a much reduced realistic budget based on projected income reportedly about 500k. It's poor I know but it's a a case of feet on the ground and steady the ship time

How much extra would the stadium cost to run compared to Feethams? Nobody really knows.
It makes money through parking, corporate functions and weddings/parties etc and there was talk about regularly staging concerts. If Graham Fordy can even get us using the stadium to even half its potential it'll make not lose us money.

It's only used for footballing purposes 23 days a year we just need someone who knows what they're doing with the other 342 days this time

its not just the running costs tho is it ? it seems to me the good folk of darlo went to the ground in greater numbers when it was slap bang in the centre of town, and had a bit of atmosphere, despite the fact it was a bit of a dump.

the vic may not be as impressive a building as the arena, but it does the job it was built for.

the arena on the other hand was, and still is, a folly. to suggest it could ever be a regular concert venue is just plain daft. generally speaking people want to go to gigs in purpose built venues with good accoustics, not a footie ground in the middle of nowhere.

good luck with it anyhow, im one of the minority i guess of hartlepool fans that would be sad to see darlo fold altogether.

Elton John attracted 17000 fans and was hailed as a success, it's a possibility to explore that's all I'm saying really.

I can't see why people think the location of the stadium is putting people off, maybe those for whom Feethams was a church but there's very few who wouldn't have made the switch. It's easier to get to the Arena than wading through the town to Feethams and paying to park if you can get a space, either pay a fiver for parking at the ground or park for free nearby and have a 5-10 min walk, easy stuff.

The reason for the decline in fans has been done to death and there's no definitive reason, it's a combination of

Recession,

Rising (yet proportionate) prices,

False promises and shattered dreams for 2 decades,

People expecting premiership service from a league 2 club and moaning for fuck all giving a bad impression to floating supporters,

2 administrations,

Changing social habits.

The fookin premiershit.

Yatter Yatter, you pick any combo.

Atmosphere? You probably remember being in the East stand, I bet it was loud there.

I'm sometimes in the West stand, it sounds loud when you're in there but doesn't carry well and sounds weak when you hear it from the South stand. There's nowt we can do really.

I said why people dont want to go to the ground for a gig and you have said it yourself the sound is crap. why go to the arse end on nowhere when you can go to leeds, newcastle or sunderland were there are bars etc in walking distance.

Lets face it your trying to put a good spin on something thats killed your club, its like me opening up a massive nightclub in Hartlepool trying to get all the best DJ's in the world there noone will turn up and it will close. That is exactly what happened to the club Pow or passion whatever it was called trying to get Judge Jules and Fatboy slim to open it.

As I said Elton John was a success, a properly constructed sound system can't be compared to fans chants, you're dwelling on the concert point too much, yes it's not the biggest or best venue I know that, I'm not trying to put spin on anything. I'm just saying it's worked once, it can be done again, hopefully every summer.

The Arena has the "potential" to be more of a pro than a con for us, until now we've not unlocked it, Fordy and Raj may or may not do that, time will tell. He's been sensible so far and hasn't overspent so hopefully the books will be balanced

Our support has dwindled but so have a lot of clubs including yours, it's a sign of the times

I'd agree with you if we had been given a 1.5 mill budget, fortunately we're going to be living within our means

What's the difference in telly money between the 4th Division and the Conference?

i wouldnt disagree that our attendance figures were poor last season, but at least they will be on the increase again this season. and of course our club is financially stable and has been for some considerable time.

if singh believes he can turn things around on the same or lower attendances than the last 2 guys who tried and failed then fair play to him. however you have to wonder whether fans will turn up in greater numbers to watch what looks like being a struggling side than they did to watch one that was pushing for promotion.

cant see how this wont end in tears once again im afraid.

I don't think the attendances will get much lower, we were pretty much down to the hardcore at the end of last season. If you do the maths and work out the budget based on rock bottom attendances you can't go far wrong in theory as far as debt is concerned.

You could argue that we're on a more stable footing than you are as we won't be relying on debts being written off to balance the books at the end of every season.(no dig intended) The problem for us is if we're doing this being completely debt free there's more chance of us ending up in the BSP than league 1. Finding our natural level won't be a bad thing in some respects though.

what relevance is that ? we arent the club thats been in administration twice owing local businesses money in the process.

at the end of the day if darlo got as many through the turnstiles as we do they wouldnt be in a mess would they ?

We would, Houghton's break even figure was anything between 5 and 6k depending on which day of the week you asked him.
