..in the car, with two under tens 'driving' one of those motorised granny dragsters. Don't you need insurance for them ...?

It's advised but not a legal requirement. There have been several incidents where they have injured pedestrians. People do not need to have any formal training to use them although when bought new the dealers give an overview. When they are bought second hand there is usually no guidance. I'm not sure of the law regarding children taking & using them though.

On any public highway, right of way, etc, third party insurance is needed.

Push bikes, Sinclair C5, Roller skates, skateboards. None of these need insurance and neither do granny cars.

I saw a bloke get pulled over by the police for driving one of those granny mobiles along the A689 heading towards Greatham just past the garden centre place
