Planes, Trains and Automobiles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Home Alone. Fantastic films and classics in their own right.

He directed all the above films and was also the screenwriter for Home Alone. To be involved in all the classic films listed is some achievement.

Forgive me if i'm beginning to sound like POK

Ah, we're talking 'Classics' of their genre ... which is 80's 90's Americam schmaltzified, idealised 'comedy' for middle America.

Very quotable classics yes. Set the benchmark for the stuff you see today like American Pie, Superbad etc.

I like having a chuckle me.

Making a lot of money is not a sign that something is necessarily good.

Grab some wood there Bub.

How can anyone diss Mr Hughes' work, those of us of "a certain age" had our youths defined by these.

If I have to come in here again, I'm cracking skulls!

The comedy might have been a little slapstick at a time, but it doesn't mean to say that it wasn't a witty film.
