sorry I meant Manchester City, £25,000,000 for Joleon Lescott  rolfl

Absolutely vulgar the lad is not even an international class footballer, he was out of his depth in an England shirt. Real City fans can't be happy about what is happening, it's fooking vulgar. How as a fan could you have any affinity with these players?

They're buying mostly British players whos prices have inflated due to the foreigner policy that is being introduced.

Check out how much Wigan want for Lee Cattermole.

I do agree with you though. It's silly season!

Everyone knows that money is no object to City, so the prices go up. Moyes will be able to do a lot of good work with 25 million, certainly more than enough to make up for the loss of one good player.

From Everton's point of view it's amazing business. What next £20,000,000 for Phil Neville?

It is absolutely ridiculous. It just makes me hate the premiershiit even more. there are clubs going to the wall and yet these clubs have £25 m to spend on an average player. It stinks, it really does. If just a tiny percentage of this surplus money was ploughed back into grass roots level it would make such a difference to many people.

I hope Man City go bust. bounders

As you know we (Southampton) have been taken over by a billionaire. We still aren't spending much as all we have picked up so far is a free LB and a possible free RB. At the moment we are trying to get a free CB as we are deasperate for another one.
I agree with the theme here that MC are throwing silly money around to try and win the title. It looks as hough the big four will now be the big five. These clubs keep spending and like mentioned previously I believe that some should be able to go to the grass roots. Maybe a tax on all sales above a certain price payable by the purchasers would help.

I just want the Arab to get to about November and from the comfort of his gold plated throne in the directors box declare whilst watching Craig Bellamy eff and jeffing at the referee again "I'm bored of this send for my gold plated private jet"

Then welcome to the board back to Abu Dhabi leaving them to work out how they are going to keep paying Garth Barry £150,000 and a week.

The trouble is, like ripples in a pool, this will spread and every club will eventually find prices rising. When it comes to banks and the Premiership .... youhave to ask ...what recession?

It needs one of the big clubs to go bust (ps when I say big club i obviously dont mean leeds!). Manu U, Chelsea, Man City preferably. Arsenal, I have a bit of time for, but the others can rot.

Unfortunately there will always be some sugar daddy to bail them out. The premiershiit has gone the same way as the italian league did.

I'm wondering when the first Man City shirt will be seen being worn in Hartlepool.

You must be getting on a bit yourself, if you've got mates who remember Franny Lee playing.

I thought Lescott was a liability last season.

Cant believe theres notr better defenders available on the continent for cheaper.

should have bought steven taylor from the skunks would have got him for about 5million and is an up and coming defender, stupid money.

Man City are like a paracite this season making themselves stronger and in the same note making people who will potentially be finishing around them weaker, Teves from man u, toure and aderbyor from Arsenal, lescott, barry etc

I would like man city to win it this year, villa the next, then everton, then bolton etc etc

It's sooooooooooooooo boring that the top 4 is pretty much the same every year.

Entertainment wise the championship is way ahead of the premiership now, you don't know who'll win the league you don't know who'll go down, 2 under dogs in burnley and hull went up, charlton s'hampton etc go down.

Looking forward to watching that this season.

there are now realistically 5 teams who have the potential to win the prem. People have voiced their disapproval at this however if you look at the other top divisions around europe most of the leagues only have 2 or maybe 3 teams capable of winning their league.

"Hey our top flight might be dogshite compared to how it used to be, but you should see those other rarfs in Europe!"

Piss-poor compensation for the death of competition, and something you never hear from fans outside that self-annointed elite four. And I'm not even sure how true it is any more, with AZ winning the Eredivisie, Bordeaux ending Lyon's monopoly in France, Wolfsburg winning the Bundesliga...
it would be a much better competition if it were a more even playing field. A bit like league 1 this year!

In part, though I have an equal loathing for Liverpool and Arsenal. Vile clubs, cut from the same cloth. It would be dead funny to see one of their former rivals strut into the room and take all their toys away.

Aren't Man City trying to emulate the others though? It seems to me that they are no different from the four they are trying to join in with.

I have to say though I was like that with cigarettes, never minded giving a person a cig if they didnt have one but always remembered and if I didnt get one in return neither did they again. One of my mates is a right git for this so always get one off him when he has a packet.

Derwent, I would say they are similar to Chelsea but not the other three. Liverpool, Manu and Arsenal have a much grubbier history going back to the scrapping of the attendance pot and gate sharing; they were all also part of the original "Big Five" who started all the "give us the TV money or we break away" talks way back in the 1980s, and were big players in the eventual breakaway a few years later. And not content with getting their own way against a pitifully weak/complicit FA back then, they then set about carving up Europe, getting extra guaranteed matches (and money) via the Champions League (wasn't the European Cup fantastic?!). By doing so they created this league where the top few get richer and pull away from the rest. They are anti-competition and anti-football.

The only way to get into that elite company these days is by financial might. Chelsea did so, and City will look to follow them. City, like Chelsea and others, do have some blood on their hands. They broke away from the Football League with the rest, and must take some blame for the financial chasm between the Prem and the FL. So it's a shame that it's City who are trying to crash the party. Someone like Hull would have been better.

City have their own anti-competitive skeletons. Way back in the 1930s there was nearly a third Manchester club in the League. Manchester Central FC had been accepted by the Division Three (North) only to find their admission vetoed by City and United, who didn't want the competition. The League rolled over and sided with the big boys.

Thanks for that very comprehensive and interesting answer.
As far as I'm concerned they are all the same.
There were the instigators as you have pointed out but the rest have followed/ are following like sheep. Every single one of them would like a massive stadium, massive support, big financial clout etc etc.
That is why I lump them all together. Where someone leads the sheep will follow.

I dont agree with what the "big four" etc did with the break away league but I was wondering the other day would I oppose this if Pools were involved.

I would say without a doubt yes, you cant balme the "real" fans ie from anfield etc supporting their team but the managment and the FA need to take a look at themselves and what they have done to football. I find it funny that city are doing this and musseling in on their party, as john says I just wish it was someone else like Hull or Burnley.

I agree entirely with Mad John - it's funny he should mention Hull, I was just saying the other night in the pub that i wished it was Hull who had been bought by the Dubai Group or whoever they are. I hope they storm the league for the simple fact that it will piss Liverpool, Man U, Arse fans off more than it could ever bother me........

The very same Mr Derwent, George Potter was carried off semi-concious with the referee waving a red card over his spinning head.

When we got back to the buses they'd all been bricked. We lost 6-0 I think sadx
