Jones's statement

Ritchie Jones has today withdrawn his transfer request and insisted he is ready to play his part for Hartlepool United in the 2009/2010 campaign.

The midfielder had previously informed Chris Turner that he wished to leave Victoria Park but he has now admitted it was a "rash decision" and has committed his immediate future to the Club.

"I just want to let people know that me putting a transfer request in was to do with off-field matters that were affecting me," Jones explained.

"I think towards the end of last season things were getting to me and perhaps at times I carried that frustration on to the pitch with me.

"What I did last week was a result of that and looking back I now know that it was a rash decision on my part.

"I've managed to get my head round things now and I want everyone to know that I am extremely happy to be playing for Hartlepool United and I am fully committed to the Club."

Speculation has been rife since Jones expressed his desire to leave with various sources suggesting clubs were already monitoring his situation.

However, the former Manchester United star has poured cold water on those reports and is now keen to draw a line under the issue.

"When stories like this appear people will be thinking I've lined up a move or something," the talented midfielder told us.

"But I want everyone to know that the truth is I've not had an agent for the past year and don't have one now so I've never looked for a move away from this Club.

"I'm really excited about the new season and I just want to work as hard as I can and help Hartlepool have a successful campaign in League One."

i dont think anyone will grumble with that news. Was it poolie_k who suggested that jones had been experiencing woman trouble? Hopefully it will all now be put to bed and he can go on to have a productive season.

I'd never make it to work if i let my women troubles bother me that much.

But if jones' bird was a hotty i can understand it bothering him.

I would have preferred the £750,000 that was being quoted - even though I didn't believe it!

Jones could be like having a new signing.

Great news.

Good news, am sure someoen said he had split with his gf? Maybe was something to do with her not being happy in North East maybe?

God knows but seems a good day to be a poolie so far.
