A good move from our point of view but it makes you wonder why we signed him. I dont think he is particularly young so he probably wont develop much more.

Won't do him any harm. TBH I think Larkin as back up is a better proposition.

Well i think this is a good move and he should have been farmed out on loan before now.

However, back to Gateshead maybe not such a good move. I believe for him to develop to league football standard he should have been on loan in league 2. SOmeone like Darlo. They are struggling for players, so he would have been starting.

I know I should put my tin hat on now, but Darlo are struggling so is Mackay, so a move down the 66 would have benefitted all three parties (Pools, Darlo and the lad himself)

Cracking move for all concerned. Gives him some chance to play regularly at a decent level now that Gateshead are in the Conference and Pools get to see how he does. Remember he came from Northern League level without the interim stage so it could do him the world of good and see if he can either come back here a better player or if he has found his level with them.

I agree - a move to a League Two team would have been more beneficial. I think he is capable of scoring goals in that league if he is played regularly...

Let's be honest he's not even league two standard.

He's not imprroved in terms of his awareness in two and a half years of being a pro he still gets caught offisde and is lightweight. He should never have got a new contract I think the fact he is joing Gateshead proves this.

He did show glimpses (and I admit they were only glimpses) of being useful last season. He is lightweight but he has a lot of energy and gets in between the opposition centre halves to good advantage at times. I think he could have done a job for the likes of Darlo...

Yes but I am talking good enough for league two, good enough for Darlo is different

Least this way he will score goals and no doubt we can then get a fee for him? Maybe that was the thinking.

You would think their was a striker expected to sign shortly........

Maybe those plans involved sending him out on loan to get some experience?

I was thinking the same. I was going to say that it may help him deal with the physical side of the game but the lad isnt some youth player with no experience, he has obviously played non-league before with all the cloggers so im not sure how playing for gateshead will help him develop as a player. Anyway there is no point in him just sitting in our reserves. good luck to him but i would be very surprised if he plays for us again barring a injury crisis for our strikers.

With Boyd and Brown in the squad we have potential for just such a crisis! bbolt

According to Gateshead there is no recall clause so he is with them till January whatever happens to our strikers.

That sort of suggests CT doesnt think we need him. It makes you wonder why he was given a contract confised

Didn't one of our best ever strikers go on loan to Boston before he did anything at the club

That is true but boydy was shipped to boston for different reasons - to get his head in order and get him fit! I would be very surprised if Mackay was shipped out for the same reasons!

How old is he now about 26?

If he was 18 he could learn summit whilst he is there.

He looks a good lad and has bags of enthusiasm, a hell of a tryer, but just lacks that touch for this level.
