As much as i don't like Garlands, the garlands brand, or the way the company is run, i feel for the people being let go by them.

It's awful at most places. Where I work they've made at least 25% of the staff redundant and scaled back the contractors working hours for the next 3 months (around 50% of the remaining workforce).

Luckily I work on an account that's not up for renewal for 3 years but even we've had to cut to the quick and come very close to our targets.

I always feel sorry for anyone under pressure to keep their jobs - what an awful situation.
I was going to jump ship if redundancy was offered at our firm as the future didn't look too good, but now a huge drugs company has pumped £27m into our firm to de-bottleneck one of their processes for a major manufacture. It looks like the potential for two big plants to be built, possibly a takeover and working for a company with excellent benefits and bonuses compared to what I'm getting now. Maybe my luck has turned at last - plus the scumbags will be out of the house next door on Friday!! Hooray!!!

Ah, halcyon days indeed

I think that too, but I doubt it was sunny every day for six weeks in reality

How many people work at Garlands? It's really bad news if they are trimming their workforce, I think most people will know quite a few people who work there or have worked there....

Come the Revolution and big Companies won't be allowed to 'own' essentials like water, and we will be able to go and help ourselves to as many buckets of water as we like.

Even urinal attendants jobs are going to the wall nowadays, you'll be replaced by one of those auto bogs.

cable and wireless were interviewing/hiring potential recruits all day thursday. hardly likely to be hiring at the end of one week and firing the following monday.

probably best to stick to bumming about craft fairs in skipton and harrogate rather than talking about something you are clueless about.[/quote]

Meeeeeoooooowwwwwww

I simply pointed out the fact you aren't privy to the what goes on at senior level in a call centre

And it happens quite often, releasing staff then re-hiring at a cheaper rate

It went on at British Gas in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008

I understand what you're saying Chip, but I can't look at that without thinking Country & Western instead of Cable & Wireless, and imagine you doing a do si do in time to the music.

tbh i dont think they are very happy about mr katcha being on holiday for 2 weeks. that bloke should be on about 50k a year the stuff he does for them. project development dont even come near to describing it.

of course there are some on here who still labour under the misapprehension that everyone who works in a call centre is strapped to a headset taking 100 calls a day from irate members of the public.

Well some of us are, well 50 calls in half a day anyway; and they're not all irate, I had a nice conversation with a lady about her daughter going to the same Uni as Jonny today.
