Some interesting arguments there that could apply to any North-East club..

I can agree with the sentiment, although however you cut it Middlesbrough is a dump and is so much more of a dump than anywhere else in the North East.

.... and surely Sunderland's even more attractive, with birds who enjoy a good roast, with footballers (allegedly)

i agree with him, the north in general is nicer than the south

cities as a rule are dumps, the countryside is nicer anyways and we have it great here.

Saltburn is the best however but dont say it too loud, they'll all wanna live here..!

Thats bollox.

The North East is a great place to live if you were born there and understand the culture but it lacks the cosmpolitan atmosphere of London. Yes London is expensive but to my mind if money is no object then there is no better city in the world, it has absolutely everything you could wish for.

I cannot say the same about Middlesbrough.

and what if money is an object??! [if that makes sense]

theres not enough gigs in M'bro, we dont attract nearly as many bands as newcastle - we just need a better venue. but theres the new gallery,

some nice pubs/resteraunts, its not that bad a place [if you avoid grangetown south bank whinney banks brambles farm etc] but then everywhere has their dumps.

i can only take london in small doses, and only then if i have a specific reason to be there

I lived in the East End for 33 years till I moved to Sarfend on sea and I can tell you.

Its over rated
Its over priced
Its over run with immigrants

You can poke London up yer arse as far as I'm concerned

I've done north, London and Midlands. Each to their own I say. I like the NE, but it has its problems. Brum is much better than I expected, but it's got its problems. I loved London (mostly South East) but I wouldn't say it was the best city in the world!

God knows why, but people in the boro have a really high opinion of their depressing town, they seem to think the fact they have a British home Store automatically guarantees city status ..... joking apart, they actually keep applying for city status .... and failing.

Tend to agree with Chip on this - I work near the Arsenal training ground in London Colney, Herts and I've seen Fabregas and Bergkamp in the Sainsbury's near there. It's megabucks round there for a gaff so it's not as though they're stuck in some slum near Broadmore Farm. I think even footballers have enough sense to live on the outskirts of London.

Bergkamp's missus is stunning, by the way!

I lived in London for nine years or so, couldnt wait to get out after the last couple. If you're making money and dont have to use public transport or young and single then its ok but otherwise its appalling.
I spent a good few years in Streatham, Streatham Hill and Brixton. A year in Manor Park, East end, worked a bit in Tower Hamlets (that was fun, the most deprived borough in London) and lived six months in Highbury. Could hear Arsenal crowd when they scored through my window.
Only place I miss in London is Brixton - wish Newcastle had its equivalent. Coming out the metro station is a right buzz. Used to have gospel singers there sometimes, the bloke with the silly hat selling incense sticks, the market with great or exotic food and a booming reggae bass. Thats what got me into reggae ( as well as the punk connection), walking through the market having had a smoke with the great music booming out.
However, Newcastle beats London hands down to me - a tremendous city.
Disagree about Sunderland and Boro and actually prefer Sunderland. Worked for Sunderland YOT for three years so know all about Hendon and Pennywell. Maybe its because I know them so well that I prefer these places to smogland.
Having said that, agreed, there is so much distance between Newcastle and Sunderland.
