i am nowt at the moment, I thought it would be easy when I go and see my girlfriend on the weekend I never smoke around her as she doesnt like it so thought it wouldnt bother me. But now I am at work with the routine of the coffee break and a smoke kicks in, I know this sound funny for people who dont smoke but my throat is gagging / tounge is really craving a cigarette, the best thing is though I cant have a smoke as wages havent kicked in and all my money is tied up in savings etc, I have about 80quid in change but its in a cealed pot you have to break, to be honest the hammer nearly came out last night.

no I havent and things going well tomorrow will be the test when I go to the pub and play pool. I hope I dont fall into the "I will just have one". Then its Friday when our lass is down here so wont smoke, then I hope its plain sailing. Although the MK Dons match weekend will be hard as mampi and another mate are down here and know I will probably smoke, so will need to get some patches.

How you doing

The craving has gone and ive stopped thinking about them .I don't particulary like sweets but a weathers original helps out the tongue craving . Even one ciggie can lead you back onto them again REMEMBER THAT .I did it and wasted another year smoking ..

I think the key things I am finding difficult are the routines I associate with smoking, having one in my car on way to work, break times etc Also my flat mate and collegues at work smoke so its hard to get out of doing it, I go outside with them for a natter but not smoking, I am also putting £2.50 in a tin each day (rough price of ten cigs) which is how much I smoked and that should be a big insentive for me.

Reason he is a problem at the moment as I always go outside the front with him for a smoke during adverts etc on the tv. So looks like your are past the worst do you think its just a routine thing with you at the moment and setting your mind to not having a fag

Why did you start smoking? (this is not meant to come across a 'holier than thou' comment, I'm genuinely interested)

I packed in a few months ago when I lost my last job, and found it really easy to do, due to the change in my routines. Still enjoy a smoke with a drink, quite happy as long as it's only a couple a week.

It becomes a problem, in my opinion, when people make a big deal and devote too much of their thought to the fact they've packed it in. I went 3 days without a tab and only realised what I had done on the third day. Once you realise that it is all in the mind, rather than a physical addiction, it becomes quite easy to stop.

apparently according to the 'experts' there are those who are addicted to the nicotine, those who are addicted to the habit and those who are addicted to both.

I quit nearly 4 years ago simply because i woke up one morning, had no tabs left and couldn't be arsed to walk to theshop at the end of the street. Thats how lazy i am! nearly messed up 3 days later by having half a tab but it knocked me sick and tasted like shite so i didn't relapse. Habit was the hardest thing to break. I put on round 2 stone in weight because over the course of time i realised how amazing food tasted when i eventually got my taste back!

Quitting is the best thing i have ever done, i have loads more spare money, i feel healthier and it doesn't rule my life thinking about when i can have my next one.

I started smoking at uni, was doing other things smoking related and when that ran out just had a rolly as the backie was left over then it just went from there.

sctatchinghead

I don't know anyone who was a habitual smoker who didn't have desperate cravings at least for a while. They didn't necessarily talk about it unless they knew you'd done it yourself and they could compare symptoms!

I still don't know how I managed to give up...had tried a couple of times unsuccessfully before the final breakthrough. But even then I repeatedly had dreams, for up to 20 years afterwards, that I was smoking ciggies and was going to have to go through the giving up all over again.

Erm, I'm all right now.

thats exactly why I want to stop my chest was really hurting the other day due to me going out in norwich with uni mates, I normally smoke about ten a day and managed to smoke about 30 on saturday alone (being in pub all day drinking) decided that I should stop as it scared me.
