We need "a" manager. Mr Turners job title is director of football and although he has been signing players and generally acting like a football club manager he is not "the manager" of HUFC. Will that make a difference? I certainly think it will, I want to see someone given the job whose livelyhood depends on the success of his team and is not trying to do two jobs for the price of one. I am astonished at the number of poolies who have accepted the current situation at the club and have shown a great commitment to pools by purchasing a season ticket. Dont they at least have the right to know who the manager of HUFC will be at the start of the season. If it is to be Mr Turner then surely 8 months is long enough to wait for an announcement.

on the other hand just accept, like the majority, that he IS the manager, and get on with moaning about the defence

I was thinking about this earlier and to be honest IOR are probably playing this quite neat from their viewpoint. By not appointing him they can escape responsibility to an extent if it all goes tits up and merely state that there was not another alternative candidate available so CT was temporarily in charge until someone better come along. If on the other hand CT does well ( ) then they will be praised. Plus it saves them paying another manager to do the job so cash is saved.

maybe, that sounds plausible.

They appoint Scotty, he signs a load of crap and gets us relegated

They appoint Wilson, who after 2 and a half years, left the squad totally unbalanced with a real lack of quality.

Maybe, because they trust Turner, they will let him have a chance to prove himself with his own squad, if after 3 month its going tits up, they move him back upstairs and bring in someone new.

I would rather they came out and sorted it one way or another though

Either way its shocking that we havent been told one way or the other whats happening. Surely if IOR believed in Turner fully then they would appoint him as manager? What on earth is Turner thinking right now? Surely he wants to know where he stands? Or as I think-Turner doesnt want the job full time.

Surely we have set a record for the longest time without a manager being announced??

but what difference does it really make to us if its made official or not? the only person who should want to desperately know is Turner.

It doesnt make much difference but surely we have a right to know?

Maybe people have forgotten that CT was appointed to generally run the club on a day-to-day basis so that IOR could minimise their involvement. We haven't exactly prospered in the last four seasons since Mr Cooper did the walk so perhaps CT is a bit hesitant about handing over the reins??

It does make a difference though - Turner should of been announced as manager ages ago if that is the route IOR/HUFC are going down, if he is announced as manager i'm sure most people will get behind him. it would be sensible for the club to make an announcement before the season starts.......

It makes one hell of a difference.

On paper we've signed 8 players to a club that has no manager, and we've had no manager for months.

At the talk in Turner admitted even he doesn't know whats happening, thats the worst part.

I think that in the context of things we have done well to sign the players we have with no manager, granted we need a defence but Tubby has done well so far

'Cos we have no manager. We have a DOS looking after the team.

We have no bus driver and even though gordon said it drives itself it just doesn't.

We're probs the only club in the world, bar newcastle, that don't have a manager.

He's the director of sport John.

He doesn't even know if he will be the manager, he said that himself!

We all know turner is the manager in all but name, he would be getting paid by the club the same if we had another manager and he went upstairs so IOR are saving the club a bit of money good on them I say

You have to admit it's not an ideal situation though...

Its not an ideal situation but the point is everyone around and involved with the club know turner is "the gaffer", so there should be no confusion with potential transfers etc.

Turner will be the manager till the turn of the year now to see how he goes well in my opinion anyway

Let's agree to disagree, i believe it's farcical that the club haven't announced or appointed a new guy, that Turner doesn't even know where his future will be and that we're signing players without any real guidance.

opinions opinions opinions....

I have to say that Turner has assurances for his future, he has a position with the club that will make him be here for a long time so he only wants best for the team and the club, so will do and is doing his best to try and bring stability and strengthen the squad.

What worries me is if Turner doesn't do well and is then replaced, the 8 players we have just signed may well not be rated by the new guy, so we're stuck with player son contracts that may have another 2 years on em.

They can then sit tight, do an Alan Power and just go get lashed every weekend without the worrying of having to actually earn there crust.

Maybe i'm a traditionalist and all this new fangled director of the hartlepool pool sports team does nothing for me.

But thats exactly the same scenario as if a new manager had came in in June, signed those players, then got sacked in December (for example) any new manager coming in would be in the same situation.

It's a cop out, Turner is getting the money to spend on players and if he fukks it up he will disappear into the background when someone else clears up the mess. If he was officially made the manager he may not be able to fade back into the background at HUFC as easilly.

It's simple really, if Turner is in charge which it seems he is then IOR should announce that they are no longer seeking a manager and that they expect Turner to do a good job.....

Turner's in a win win situation, like Jonny basically said.

If he fails he can just say ey, i'm not the manager, not my fault, then he can slip back into the background as director of sport, go back to his part time hours and get back on his argos desk.

Yes but Turner knows that he will still hold an important role in the club if the management thing goes tits up. So he will still be doing his best and signing the best players he can in the meantime, there is no cop out.

I don't think his role is important, a director of sport is not essential.

At the talk in John he said he doesn't know what he is, so why are you so certain that he is if he himself as said he doesn't know?

possibly although i dont see how it would affect me if it was announced. It wouldnt make me any happier nor would it make me more sad, i would'nt feel any more or less excited by the coming season, it wouldn't make a jot of difference to me in the slightest.

Turner IS our manager and will continue to be unless the results dont come, he will then go back to his original job and we will get someone else in. Its that simple

Just because he looks, acts, walks, talks like a manager doesnt mean he is, until it's announced, he's the director of sport.

It is true that he is doing the manager's job but it is also true that he hasn't officially been appointed as manager. There are those who are happy with that situation and there are those who aren't.
As far as we know he has been given the managerial duties on a temporary basis. That makes him Director of sport and acting manager.
If it does go tits up he will be relieved of his temporary manager duties and will revert to his original role. In that respect he is in a stronger position than he would be if he was officially appointed as manager. If he fails as acting manager then he is still employed. That makes his position different from other managers.

it's about time everyone knew what the situation is. The fans, the players and CT himself. This can be done by making a simple statement on the oficial site. If Turner is ANNOUNCED as manager over 90% of Poolies will back him and give him a chance including me. He probably wouldn't be anyone's first choice but he would be given a chance for the good of HUFC. But by not having an official annoucement Turner becomes an easy target for criticism.

It seems at the moment that it's just a case of 'lets see what happens' results wise and like has been said Turner is in a win / win situation. Is an official announcement really too much to ask?
