Grimbsy pulled out of the South West cup final, a pre-season tournament with Wycombe, Blackpool, Dagenham, Bideford, Exeter, and a few, as during the semi-final a number of Luton fans had give Mike Newell a load of grief.
The final the following day was due to be Luton v Grimsby so they withdrew, I understand they wanted the final moved from 6pm to 3pm and a lot of police involved, which was not able to be arranged. A team from Belgium who had earlier been knocked ou of the competition but were still in the area took their place.
