Brilliant stuff. This is the 3rd series and it never fails to impress.

It's written by Jimmy McGovern who as an added bonus clearly despises Man Ure. Check this clip. NSFW by the way...

There was a mention of the Red Shite being one-up last night with the Granny shagger scoring for them!

It's a brilliant idea, has brilliant actors in it and every week is different! Bonus clappp

I watched it for the first time last night. I tend not to watch series, thinking they tend to be written to a formula, but I really enjoyed that one. I watched mainly because I knew Bob Hoskins was in it, a lovely twist at the end.

Have watched the other series and thought most of the plays were a cut above. But last night's episode I felt was a bit dodgy, despite the excellent acting. Would anyone really threaten to fit up a landlord for banning someone for smoking?

Besides that, there were questions asked, at the beginning, about who was the more to 'blame'...the hard man who finances the lads' football team, or the landlord who makes a profit selling to the lads ale that leads to criminal activities etc etc.
That point was just forgotten about, at the end of the story.

Not a lover of TV series at all, liked the look of that clip though, very powerful. How long has it been going?

Probably about 3 years. McGovern uses excellent actors (Jim Broadbent, Timothy Spall, Gina McKee, Bob Hoskins etc). All the episodes are linked in some way as it's about families in the same street.

I thought last nights was up there with the very best and I could easily see something like that happening.

Kieran Bew (Hartlepool actor) was the main character in an episode of the last series. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Well, I still have me doubts. If someone threatened me and told me the exact time he was planning the assault, I wouldn't just be standing there waiting for him to turn up. Again, were the local police all on holiday that afternoon?

Pierre, assuming I know what you're going to say, there are still the other plot-problems I mentioned. The other plays in the series have been more consistent, innit.

I liked it, thought it was really good, and that point what grabey's on about was thought provoking.

what i liked most though was that it didn't go the way I/we thought it would.
usually we predict the plots quite successfully - especially formulaic american type things which we may as well have wrote the bloody script they're so predictable!!! - but this one had us beat!!
file under: good drama from the BBC

Best thing on the telly. The best episode ever starred that ugly bloke with the big nose (not me Ben), married to Anna Friel, whats his name?
David Thewlis! Anyway, he steals his twin brothers identity after he dies. You know which one I mean?

Saw it last night for the first time . . . accidentally!
Mrs. PB was watching it while I was doing important stuff . . . . sorting out DVDs, and thought it was very good. Never even heard of it before last night.
