. . . we had 2 goalscorers in the top 8 league goalscorers? Barker - 3rd, Daly - 8th? I guess this a question for Mad John.

Thanks for that MJ - I certainly haven't got the answer - it was just an open question although I'm sure I've seen 2 Hartlepool players in the leading scorers charts at the same time - possibly Baker & Allon but not at the end of the season. I guess the Ernie Phythian and the late Jimmy Mulvaney partnership would take some beating, especially if Jon Daly goes to Dundee United.

We've had some cack masquerading as strikers over the years.

Alan Waddle? Les Mutrie? Barry Sideboard?

What about that bloke from Bradford, Laurence Davies?

Can anyone remember Hughie Reed? Or Barry Endean?

Absolute bobbins.

Aye, you're right there - although I quite liked Les Mutrie & remember him getting a few goals for us and then disapearing from football altogether in the middle of the season. My dad sponsored Barry Wardrobes' kit once - that was only because my old man was a cabinet maker and must have felt some affinity with a wardrobe. Paul Beavers was another who failed miserably and who can forget Adie Mike.

Les Mutries finest moment was indeed scoring the winner at Feethams in 84. I was good mates with Pools left-back at the time (Bryan Liddle) and he swears that Les was high that night on a mixture of unknown origin, and asked what he had done when the Pools players jumped all over him after he notched!

full of cortisone a lot of tranqs from elvis's medicine chest.

still tho - winner at loidsville = legend.

Barry Endean - another legend - had dealings with him as of late. soundy

I remember when we had FIVE players in the top eight strikers.

Robson, Strachan, Robinson, Nelson, and Istead.

I would have mentioned Ernie P and Jimmy M earlier but I don't want to give the impression I'm obsessed with them (although there are good reasons for being so)!
