I've been to Carlisle. A long time ago, admittedly, but I can't even remember it being a city, let alone a massive one.
It doesn't seem to be in the top 70.

http://www.lovemytown.co.uk/Populations ... Table2.asp

I think Matty made a mistake and got off the train at Newcastle.

They've been top of, what was then, the premier league. Don't ever remember Pools being there.

Population of the urban area of Carlisle, that being the city itself and NOT the local government area which some places like to stick on, is 72,000 ... yet the urban population of Hartlepool is 87,000, some massive city eh ? ....

A smaller population than Hartlepool?

http://www.lovemytown.co.uk/FootballTea ... Table5.asp

Hartlepool 71st. (one place behind the Loids with a population of 7(?) less)

Carlisle 78th.

The words 'Matty' and 'thought' do tend to clash.

Reading that interview, i think all matty and abbott done was play cards.

And abbott won't have won cos he just laid his cards on the table the whole time.

Christ, Mr I, what bearing does something a club did once, well over 30 years ago, have on what Carlisle are now?

Anyway, what were Carlisle doing when Pools were doing this, much more recently?

Im not bothered about the towns population. Carlisle United is a bigger club than Hartlepool United.

He's right, but Bradford is a bigger city than most and they're in the basement with the 'Loids.

I think what young Matthew is talking about is potential. Carlisle have about 1,000 square mile of hinterland to rely on for support - *WARNING* - exaggeration alert), but it's what happens on the dancefloor that counts and Carlisle are taking one of our squad players for a first-teamer. No need to be insecure, here, chaps. No bitching required. We should be better than that.

Apologies, if that sounded a bit pious bbolt

The reason he's never been a regular is because he has never been regularly good enough. That is down to you Matty. Andy Monkhouse is a far better footballer than you.

Cheap shot, no need. Carlisle will go down mark my words that Abbott makes Matty sound intelligent.

He could be right but this club has looked after him for years, many would have released him years ago without giving him a chance at all. He's been a lucky boy to be at Pools as we give the kids a chance.

Matty did indeed beat me on a quiz about Italian twatting football, can't say I lost too much sleep on that one! I always liked Matty and it's a shame he didn't develop, he was number one on the teamsheet around November/December time for me but as soon as his confidence dropped when he failed to get a kick against West Ham that was it. He put in some really good performances last season (many better than what fans favourite Monkhouse returned, Leicester at home apart) but sadly the consistency and confidence was never there. His time at Pools was never helped by the people who knocked the lad in their droves and a move away could be exactly what he needs.

To be fair to Robson, he's went to Carlisle, laid his cards on the table... and won with a full house.
