some good names on here already - I like clever drummers. Jazz drummers and reggae drummers are always good to listen to.
The likes of Buddy Rich even had their own orchestra!! Carl Palmer's hero as well, he was.
Neil Peart is class
Has anyone mentioned John Bonham and Ian Paice yet?

Also has anyone mentioned B. Muriel?

I have seen quite a few great drummers mainly from the 80's & 90's but my favorite ones must be Ginger Baker with Hawkwind, Phil Collins with Genesis and John Bonham with Led Zep.

Saw Buddy Rich and his band at Newcastle City Hall in around 80-81 or so, unbelievable that a then little old man could do what he did

Great Drummer.

Shite Singer.

agreed. Genesis should have wrapped up in 1980, while they still had credibility. Has there ever been a band that has gone from such musical merit to one of no worth whatsoever?

I'm glad the irony isn't wasted......

PS

Ringo was a good drummer, sadly for him it seems he dared to be in a talented popular band, still I bet he was playing in front of a load of wankers in some shitty pub in Camden...

Phil Collins
Keith Moon

and a gadge I saw at the King Oswy workies yonks ago do a drum solo, you know when the rest of the band go for a lag and leave the drummer doing his stuff. He had to be stopped by the concert chairman shouting "get the bloody band back on we are waiting for the bingo"

He spoiled one of the best drum solo's ever,no idea who he was.

A few favourites already mentioned, mainly Ginger Baker and Keith Moon. But what about Clive Bunker of Jethro Tull and Blodwyn Pig.

Topper Headon, Sly Dunbar, Tommy Ramone were all good but the best drummer I ever saw was Hugo Burnham from the Gang of Four. Mind you I never saw a young James Brown, except at Pools, and his drummers all seem to have had then funk.

I CAN'T STAND JAZZ DRUMMERS! Now I have to wash my mouth out because I said Jazz drummers.
Come on now, honestly, what the fook do jazz drummers contribute. They INVENTED self-indulgence. Utter, utter, UTTER crap (opinions, opinions, eh?).

Steve Hewitt will do for me, along with quite a few others. Even LARRY MULLEN JR. cuts the ice!

Concurring fully with Clem Burke. Blondie followed The Corrs on at Glastonbury a few years ago and after watching her off the Corrs pitter-pattering about for 40 mins, the mighty Clem turned up and and almost thumped the kit off the stage.

Tre Cool off Green Day is another favourite.
