That would have been handy and all, that ferry from Newcastle to Bergen, if you wanted to go on a trip to Norway.

It wasn't until I looked it up on the internet for the prices that I found out the ferry was no longer operating.

Not being funny here PoK but you couldn't afford a weekend in Norway, when I went 25 years ago it was 3 quid a pint and a burger and chips was over a fiver.

Stick to student type trips away like Amsterdam for a herb tasting session

Actually I do remember seeing the series Trawlermen on BBC when a fishing crew had to stay overnight in Norway because the engine of their ship needed to be repaired before they sailed back to Peterhead, and I remember the crew going into a bar for a pint and one of the crew saying they had paid the Norweigan kroner equivalent of THREE POUNDS !!!

No wonder Norway is one of the richest countries on Earth!!! rolfl

Well don't you think £3 is a a bit steep for a pint anywhere.

How old was this programme, PoK?

You'd do bloody well to get a pint in Norway for three quid. I'd expect to pay at least double that.
... £3 you're having a laugh...nearer £8 nad don't even ask how much the guiness is..

This was last year, I think. But as I say, I wouldn't expect anyone, nor me, to know how much a pint costs in Norway, only to say that it must be quite expensive.

Talking of ferries..

Anyone used the one to Holland.

Yes went on the one from Hull to Rotterdam a year ago. I can't remember how much it was but would've remembered if I'd been robbed. There's free parking in a multistory at the terminal, good choice of restaurant on the boat, free evening cabaret and reasonably comfortable cabins. I remember the booze being a bit pricey but what the hell. All in all a bit of an overnight cruise and much better than going through airports.
