He's not the greatest footballer in the world, never has been and never will be. The phrase 'we're Hartlepool not Liverpool' springs to mind here though and we're not going to have 20 players at our disposal every week that can set the division on fire. We NEED the likes of Mackay, Robson and Foley who will be on modest wages but can occasionally come in and do a job. Without Mackay may not have got a money spinner against Stoke, without Foley we might not have got our bumper money spinner against West Ham.

Mackay has his uses, especially against tiring defenders and if he is given decent service you'd fancy him to nick a goal. That's not a bad return for someone you're paying peanuts.

That gives us Brown Boyd Lange and an other. All ahead of Mackay. So he is hardly likely to make the bench much........except for injuries.

I mean, I doubt any of us would be best pleased to see him in the side ahead of any of the names above.....including an other.

Now I have no problem with us giving Mackay a contract to lead the ressies strike force........but does it really warrant a page on the official website?
