It's on radio boreo at the moment, nothing official yet but they're parading local councillors etc on there. They're speculating the 90 day notices will be going out soon. Official announcement soon ( they expected it at 10am ).

Britain, will the last person out please switch off the light...

Seriously, do we actually make anything in this country anymore, or do we export containers full of hairdressers and nail 'technicians' to the world?

I remember trying to find the office of a certain elusive group of planners who were very hard to find ... I gave up in the end and phoned them... "Oh it's the door with the 'NO ENTRY' radioactive symbol on" .."Is it safe?" I asked..."Oh there's nowt there, it just keeps the gaffers out".......

Funny you should say that....my Dad worked for Richardson's most of his life and then after he was made redundant, spent his last 2 years at the Steelworks. He used to boast he was the only turner in town with all his fingers in tact. He soon lost one of them after moving to BSC!

If we're talking about Redcar blast furnace, I worked at Davy Ashmore's when we built it. It was crammed full of bleeding edge technology and was the biggest in the world. The original plans for the Redcar site showed five of the monsters.
And it's being shut down already? While Scunthorpe has still got four (admittedly a lot smaller) ones running?

Sad.

Funny you should say that, I had an 'accident' and needed 17 stitches, went to the medical centre and was awaiting transport to hospital. I was asked to stop bleeding on the floor as it had just been laid.

I'll probably make it to retirement and get my final salary pension...... but the country is f-ucked. It has a great history, but a very bleak future.
I predict several riots in years to come...it won't be pretty

Had a meeting today and there pretty much screwed 1920 jobs over there, Luckily Hartlepool will be untouched but for how long is anyones guess.. at least the 20" Mill is still making a profit these days so weve been fairly untouched with all these's job losses in corus. Touch wood.

The people who run this country only see a balance sheet, if they can move your job overseas, or import something for a marginal increase in profitability, they'll do it without blinking. It's all about short term quick buck profits ... the government is arm in arm with the money makers and the unions are full of compliant lap dogs, run by people whose concept of real work is as relevant as my understanding of Grouse shooting etiquette. We are indeed fooked.

the sad thing is.... if I could remember the cartoon in question.......I watched a 5 minute animation on how gradual industrial growth with small profit margins (re-invested into the business for further growth) was the correct way to manage any business...... sadly a cartoon has a more meaningful message attached to it, than anything coming out of the mouths of single person in big/corporate business today, aided and abetted by incompetent and civil servants/government officials insulated from all aspects of real life.
Greed from shareholders and investors wanting unsustainable returns year on year has become the norm. I'm sure this was never taught in their economics classes.....

Most Civil servants / Government officials haven't got a clue. Well meaning theorists, they have only ever worked in the publuic sector and haven't the faintest idea of how to run anyhting. They,re the sort of people who'd employ a £45,000 'expert' to save £5,000 and completely fail to see the obvious flaw in their wonderful plan.
