What do us 'smaller' clubs fans think of this proposal for Premier League 2?

Basically it's an insurance policy for the Premiershit.... I can just see it... 'Worried about relagation from the biggest money generator ever? well don't ...because with Premiershit 2 you'll have a ready made safety net to protect you in the event of the unimaginable happening .... RELEGATION .... We all hope it never happens, but it may, and when it comes we have to be prepared and that's where Premiershit 2 comes in, protected income and no chance of successful lower leagur riff raff getting your place no matter how good they are ..... because we won't let them in  '
It's the final stitch up by the money men to wipe out all alternatives regardless and open up a big fat juicy commercial doshfest just for themselves, it stinks.

the proposal is for 2 leagues of 18 teams including celtic and rangers. so thats 34 teams from england and wales meaning no room for 10 of the current championship clubs.

the football league should tell them to welcome to the board. we dont want any of their bankrupt relegated sides and we dont want any promotion to their shitty league.

they should also send an ultimatum to all championship clubs stating they either sign up to the football league now and commit to it or we outlaw them, meaning if they dont get accepted into the 34 club elite there will be no place anywhere in football for them.

we start a new football league and have fook all more to do with anyone in the new circus. let them keep their wigans and hulls and fulhams and boltons and middlesboroughs and portsmouths and stokes and blackburns for all eternity.

assuming we got the bottom 10 of the championship and all below that, our top league would still have coventry, derby, forest, southampton, leeds, leicester, , norwich, charlton etc, and in all likelyhood if it was run and promoted well would be a better standards than premier league 2 within 5 years.

with no relegation/promotion ever from the premier league 2 there would be no way to punish teams breaking the rules and no way of replacing bankrupt clubs. it will be interesting to see how long the top boys are prepared to prop up clubs like fulham and wigan when their sugar daddy owners die.

cracking post clappp

I agree. The Football league should say what they didn't say 17 years ago: you leave, you don't come back.

personally i think derby vs forest, or leicester vs coventry, or leeds vs sheff wed, or watford vs charlton or millwall vs southampton in the football league, would have as much appeal on television as wigan vs reading, or stoke vs fulham or blackburn vs plymouth or hull vs west brom in the prem 1 or 2.

Too damned right. Burnley against United was on the telly tonight in the pub, in a contest that actually meant something to both teams. It wasn't the greatest of matches but it was a million times better than Sunday's drabfest. And I wasn't the only person in the pub to think so. People do watch and enjoy these "lower league" games. For example I was amazed at how many people commented to me that Pools were mugged when West Ham got that penalty. I hadn't even mentioned the match to them.

If this idea was to get off the ground it wouldn't surprise me to see teams like Leeds, Leicester and Sheff Wed try to inveigle their way into the starting lineup. It wouldn't necessarily be the highest placed Championship teams that would be cherrypicked to make up the numbers, and be added onto the current 20 Premiershite teams.

It's all about keeping the richest at the top and the poorest 'where they belong' - keep the riff-raff out of our elite club. Capitalism gone mad - I despair.

This comment about teams a a global brand shows my hate for the big clubs, from bbc

Manchester City will tour South Africa this summer as they look to start establishing themselves as a global brand by challenging neighbours Manchester United's popularity in the country.

Not unless Arsenal and L'pool both won all their games that season.

To be fair those two tables were pretty exceptional. Back in the seventies there weren't a lot of "minnows" about:

1 Leeds United 62
2 Liverpool 57
3 Derby County 48
4 Ipswich Town 47
5 Stoke City 46
6 Burnley 46
7 Everton 44
8 Queens Park Rangers 43
9 Leicester City 42
10 Arsenal 42
11 Tottenham Hotspur 42
12 Wolverhampton Wanderers 41
13 Sheffield United 40
14 Manchester City 40
15 Newcastle United 38
16 Coventry City 38
17 Chelsea 37
18 West Ham United 37
19 Birmingham City 37
20 Southampton 36
21 Manchester United 32
22 Norwich City 29

Thinking about it, both of those tables are good ones to mention when some pubfan bore drones on about Ferguson being the greatest British manager since EVER... FACT! Look how well he did when he had to compete on a level playing field, when it wasn't all about winning a four-team league against the other PLCs
