V Oxford match tonight on the telly, or the last half hour of it anyway. It is most reassuring that Billy Turley is still without doubt the king of all the not nice people.

If the Republic of Rarf was formed he'd be the dictator, and King.

He'd also be head of the 'I'll flap at this cross, miss it, then whine like a bitch at the ref because a centre forward had the cheek not to move as I ran straight into him' department of the government.

The biggest cheat to ever grace the lower leagues, I hope he dies in a freak boating accident. I almost hope we go down then Oxford win the play offs so I can personally set fire to him next season.

I regret watching that game, when Boydy robbed him and scored at Rushden I thought that was some closure for us all, but no the daft greasy haired fooker didn't have the good grace to retire on the spot.

I was thinking exactly the same while shouting like fook at the telly for Burton to score past the prick

Shame they didn't like.

Mind you, he didn't half get kneed in the nads right at the end of the match!

I hope Burton do it. It's always good to see a team get to the Football League for the first time ever.

I suppose it's a bit closer than Luton. I just hope to hell that fact doesn't matter.

Their ground's a soulless, out of town affair, should suit the travelling Loids...

personally I think Burton might have blown it, and Cambridge could well finish top now. They are away to Salisbury today and have some real momentum going. If they win, then it's all on the last match and they'll be 3 points behind and possibly three or four goals difference behind. Cambridge are then at home to Altrincham and they'll run up a few goals there I think, and Burton away at Torquay who also need to win to guarantee a play off spot. If Burton blow it they'll have blown a bigger lead than what we did when Newell was manager

I hope Cambridge do go up, and up again, if only for their bacon sarnies!

Anyone remember us winning 1-0 at Cambridge about ten/eleven years ago when Steve Howard scored the winner and they had Walkers Crisps dishing out bag after bag of their product? I must have stashed about 30 packets as I'd travelled from London on the train and had my overnight bag with me!

Was that the game where all 3 goals were in the last 10 minutes? Second away game of the season?

Ha ha, that'll teach me to just scan the post! I'm sure Steve Howard scored the winner in that game too, a few minutes after Trevor Benjamin had levelled...

I've got an uncle who lives in Witney, Oxfordshire and supports Oxford United, so to be honest I'm glad Oxford have come from nowhere and are on the brink of claiming a play off place that would have been unimaginable a couple of months ago under their past manager. And the 5 point deduction Oxford got didn't help for fielding an inelligible player. I thought if they lost on Friday, that that penalty woul come back to bite them. The game got more bad tempered as it went on and I thought that someone would get sent off before the end and it they did, it would be Oxford's Lewis Haldane - he was fiery all night.

But the reaction ofthe players at the end of the game was something else: Oxford celebrated it as if they had just won promotion and not Burton, who reacted as if they had been relegated.

But one thing's for sure: the similarites between Burton in the Blue Square in 2009 are staggering compared to Hartlepool in Division Three in 2003.

At one time Burton lead the League by a whopping NINETEEN points, they should have been promoted ages ago, but they've just faltered since the start of March and instead Cambridge's win on saturday means this is going to go to the last day of the season. Amazing.

Our end of season form in 2003 wouldn't have mattered if Rubbish and Dustbins hadn't chosen just that moment to go on what was, let's admit it, a fantastic run.
I thought maybe Cambridge had done the same but looking at their results, they've certainly been good but nowhere in the same league as Rushden in 2003.
So I'd say Burton's collapse slightly beats the shit out of Pools under Mike Knewall.

Cambridge was one of those infuriating grounds where we never got anything..... then a couple of wins in consecutive years and a draw the year we went up. Which made a nice change. The 2-1 was when they equalised very late on, and Pools went down the other end and Lee scored the winner for us!! The Howard one we were hanging on if I remember right.

As for York, they should be safe with their last two away games being Lewes and Weymouth - surely 6 points in the bag.

Isn't it strange how we have all the time in the world for "local clubs" as long as they're not in the greaty big three (Dinsdale United excepted).
