Laddo in our band, Robbie - violin/piano fact fans - is a man U fan on account of his dad....I've told him a squillion times to get into real footy....he's at Uni in York and now regularly goes to watch York and is following them to Wrmbley.

fair play to the lad, and nice to see that not all of them are braindead glory boys

For all the difference it makes in my eyes, any Pools supporter who also supports any of The Top Four or any of The Big Three and quotes mitigating circumstances might as well admit to supporting Darlo with mitigating circumstances.

I'll admit to having a "soft spot" for certain teams (none in this country) because they are places I've lived in. But in all honesty I couldn't give a shite whether they win or lose and certainly couldn't be arsed to jump about in delight when they score.

You're probably talking about 2 thirds of the people that go to Pools then. Practically everybody I know who goes to Pools has some sort of affinity with another English team and it's usually a big club.

I find the people who are purely Pools supporters have an irrational hatred towards most teams. It absolutely baffles me.

Look at a lot of the threads on this board. Most slag of Boro, Sunderland, Newcastle, Man Ure, Liverpool, Chelsea.

I've seen posts slagging of MK Dons, Brighton, etc.

Most are made by folk who are purely devoted to Pools (not a bad thing I might add)

Are you not reading these posts?

Ok. Maybe irrational was the wrong choice of words. Unnecessary (in my eyes) would have probably fit better.

What I don't understand is people like Misterb getting grief for saying he likes Manchester United when he is in fact a Hartlepool United season ticket holder. As far as i'm concerned, as long as he's paying to watch Pools, he can do what he likes afterwards and so can anyone else.

I am being a bit hypocritical myself. I hate Man Utd with a passion and always have.

cheers jish. my only reason for starting this whole debate was because not all big club fans are arseholes. Most of them maybe. But not all. And lets face it with our (i mean pools, just in case anyone wondered ) recent 'success' over the last 10 years, the attitude of half of our supporters has become fucking disgusting. They want to be looking at themselves before they slag other supporters off.

Yeah I got a text off him last night saying the same. Well, not the same but you know what I mean!

He's been a Fulham season ticket holder since we were kids and would love to return to the pre Al Fayed old days of Fulham being sh*t and playing in the same division as us.

Having been a Poolie since my first match as a 9 year old, I've flirted with also following Sunderland, when I was about 11-14 year old, because they played on the alternate Saturdays to us, and some of my friends at the time used to go up on the Football Special Buses to Roker, and going to Ipswich for 3 years while I was living in the area. I'm not interested in the Mackems now, but still have a fondness for the Tractor Boys, probably helped by Tommy Miller still being there. My oldest lad has been a Poolie since I introduced him to his first match aged about 9, and i rescued the other two from being Man U fans, by starting to take them along as well. It's been expensive at times, but it's my duty as a Poolie, to provide the club with the next generation of fans!

But on that note - i support Yorkshire rather than Durham because Durham didn't have a county side when I first took an interest in cricket...... But i don't suppose Hartlepool is in Durham anyway bbolt

This isnt about Salty supporting Pools. Or Teesside quaker supporting Darlo.

Its about stupid bounders from Hartlepool sat watching Liverpoo and Manure on the box, in the pub, wearing their shirts, claiming to be fans of those shiity awful clubs, whilst not watching their home town club play.

Those people should be shot. They certainly wouldnt be missed.

Just thought you must have missed this MisterB.

Now, I dont need your opinion on these people. as they are ALL infact C.U.N.T.S. As I am sure you will agree.....if you really are a poolie.

Please read the description again.....carefully.

I support Durham, since they came into the League, as Hartlepool is in Durham as far as I'm concerned. But the other half supports Yorkshire, because she has been a Cricket fan going back a lot further than me, and went to watch them play whenever they were in the Boro.

The piss must have nearly boiled dry by now but I have an urgent question-

I've supported Pools since I was about six or seven and have never lived too far away to get to matches regularly. I flirted with Leeds in the early to mid '70s but soon grew up and have been faithful to Pools ever since. Last summer in an act of random madness I moved to France and have been watching Toulouse getting along to most home matches. I am excited about them getting to the Cup semis and very excited at the possibility of them winning the Ligue 1 title by beating Lyon in the last match of the season. I don't feel any less passionate about Pools but I am a TFC supporter too now.

Is this acceptable or is it akin to telling my wife that, although I still love her, I will be shagging some French women as well on account of their Frenchness?

You're in France mate: shagging another woman is almost compulsory!

As I implied in an earlier post, you do tend to get attached to clubs in certain towns you live in. I keep looking out for Montpellier's results (when I can remember). But I could never see myself getting attached to Scunny or Donny, the nearest teams to where I live now.

I don't see the harm in having a "bit on the side" when the team's in a different country; it's almost like a different sport.
