I wondered when you would turn up.... you're the perfect example Matt.

You don't and never have lived in Darlo, by all accounts you should, if anything, be a Smoggie. Yet one day your mate invites you to Darlo and a love affair begins......

besides all you ever do is cream yourself over Barcelona, so you're a fine one to talk...

you know we have had a very reasoned debate all afternoon, with some very valid points......then along come posts like this

Reasoned debate, I suggested earlier that these people should be lined up and shot, I meant it as well.

It might be just me but out of the two I'd rather be called a c*** and a fooking idiot any day of the week rather than be shot dead.

Its ok PJ, i have my shit filters on when you're talking so i must have missed what you said

Not really, I live in Eaglescliffe, which is sort of bang in the middle between Boro and Darlo. I do not claim to be a Barcelona fan, I enjoy watching them on the telly, but I have no other interest in them. I used to think you were a die hard Poolie Chris. Seems I was wrong...

It probably takes me less time to get to The Arena than The Riverside. It's not my fault you can't grow out if your infatuation with Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo is it?

Is this supporting the biggest team just a Football thing? Can you imagine any Cricket supporter from Yorkshire supporting Essex, or a resident in Leicester being a supporter of Surrey.

Having been a Poolie since my first match as a 9 year old, I've flirted with also following Sunderland, when I was about 11-14 year old, because they played on the alternate Saturdays to us, and some of my friends at the time used to go up on the Football Special Buses to Roker, and going to Ipswich for 3 years while I was living in the area. I'm not interested in the Mackems now, but still have a fondness for the Tractor Boys, probably helped by Tommy Miller still being there. My oldest lad has been a Poolie since I introduced him to his first match aged about 9, and i rescued the other two from being Man U fans, by starting to take them along as well. It's been expensive at times, but it's my duty as a Poolie, to provide the club with the next generation of fans!

I am going to do my level best to make sure my bairn grows up to be a Poolie, but I won't have a problem with him following Forest or Notts County.

If he decides to 'support' any of the Premiership glory teams them he will be subject to regular beatings until he sees the error of his ways.

Actually, the problem is that box in the corner, that beams out football non stop, take that away and satellite and the lazy sods would actually have to go and watch a a match, now that would be a culture shock for them. The trouble is that football is now no more than a soap opera and those people who 'support' the Manures and Liverpools are no different to their daft wives thinking East Enders or Corrie is real, their so called team is their programme, it's got absolutely no relationship to real football as we experience it, whatsoever.

This is getting silly.

This isnt about Salty supporting Pools. Or Teesside quaker supporting Darlo.

Its about stupid bounders from Hartlepool sat watching Liverpoo and Manure on the box, in the pub, wearing their shirts, claiming to be fans of those shiity awful clubs, whilst not watching their home town club play.

Those people should be shot. They certainly wouldnt be missed.

Just wanted to bring up a point made last night by mr b reagrding people supporting germany and others. The point I made yesterday was that I dont have a problem with people support a team who they have a connection with ie born/raised in town or one that your family have an affinity to ie your dad was born in glasgow, munich, etc.

However I can only say that a person can only fully support one team and thats it, I understand you may look out for man u (still unclear for reasons apart from the fact you and your dad watched them on tv) and cheer them on but wouldnt call you a supporter of them.

The fact is you support a team by going to watch them. If you watch them on the telly you follow them. Big difference.

ah so we are talking about the technicality of the words used. I been to see man u 6 times live so no i wouldnt strictly call myself a 'supporter'. but definately a fan.

just because one person said something once mr john doesnt mean that it was and still is true. I doubt man utd give a flying fuck about pools. Just like pools dont give a fuck about say a team like st albans or some team kicking around 2 divisions below us.

Of course he would. Cos football is a business now you know, not a sport.

Funny how so many.....errr.....fans  ......of the magic big few, make statements like that.

Its not a foookin business, its our national sport. It doesnt belong to a few money grabbing c.u.n.t.s like manure, liverpoo and chelski.

And the more........fans  ......that keep saying it is, the more these c.u.n.t.s and the media whores that lap them up, will believe it.

But maybe it's Pools fault that Scarborough and Halifax went bust if we use Mr Mad's logic? sctatchinghead

sorry to all you manure lovers out there, but.............................

Isnt supporting/following/liking Manure akin to those kids that play Fifa on their playstations, or Football Manager on the PC, that always pick the easiest level and always pick the best teams, and therefore just win?

Most, if not all manure fans, in my experience, are ashamed to admit they support them. Because they know they will thought of as being a twat. As will those that follow Liverpool.

Oh and as i said mr adg, i started being a fan when they werent the best most dominant team in the world. They soon became it and i continued to be a fan. If you dont like it then tough shit really.

But you are a poolie arent you?

Or is your love of Manure so great you had to get personal?

If you read what I have written throughout this thread, I was referring to those that dont actually support pools. But dont let that get in your way of defending the Mighty Manure. yawn2

you were aiming it towards me. So i aimed some back at you. Im not ashamed of me liking man u and i have stood up for myself and the others like me as the sweeping statements like 'anyone who likes man u is a twat' really get on my tits sometimes. Not because of my love for man utd, but because of my love of football. I love it, i fucking love it. Could i live without it? No i would have to kill myself

Laddo in our band, Robbie - violin/piano fact fans - is a man U fan on account of his dad....I've told him a squillion times to get into real footy....he's at Uni in York and now regularly goes to watch York and is following them to Wrmbley.

fair play to the lad, and nice to see that not all of them are braindead glory boys

For all the difference it makes in my eyes, any Pools supporter who also supports any of The Top Four or any of The Big Three and quotes mitigating circumstances might as well admit to supporting Darlo with mitigating circumstances.

I'll admit to having a "soft spot" for certain teams (none in this country) because they are places I've lived in. But in all honesty I couldn't give a shite whether they win or lose and certainly couldn't be arsed to jump about in delight when they score.

You're probably talking about 2 thirds of the people that go to Pools then. Practically everybody I know who goes to Pools has some sort of affinity with another English team and it's usually a big club.

I find the people who are purely Pools supporters have an irrational hatred towards most teams. It absolutely baffles me.

Look at a lot of the threads on this board. Most slag of Boro, Sunderland, Newcastle, Man Ure, Liverpool, Chelsea.

I've seen posts slagging of MK Dons, Brighton, etc.

Most are made by folk who are purely devoted to Pools (not a bad thing I might add)

Are you not reading these posts?

Ok. Maybe irrational was the wrong choice of words. Unnecessary (in my eyes) would have probably fit better.

What I don't understand is people like Misterb getting grief for saying he likes Manchester United when he is in fact a Hartlepool United season ticket holder. As far as i'm concerned, as long as he's paying to watch Pools, he can do what he likes afterwards and so can anyone else.

I am being a bit hypocritical myself. I hate Man Utd with a passion and always have.

cheers jish. my only reason for starting this whole debate was because not all big club fans are arseholes. Most of them maybe. But not all. And lets face it with our (i mean pools, just in case anyone wondered ) recent 'success' over the last 10 years, the attitude of half of our supporters has become fucking disgusting. They want to be looking at themselves before they slag other supporters off.

I've skipped right to the last page. Is it worth reading?
