Anyone bought an instrument from Hobgoblin Music in Leeds? Or know how reliable they are?

Never bought anything from them but they have been around for ages (I can remember them in the early 70's) so I'd say that's a good sign. I've fancied getting a Hurdy Gurdy (Hobgoblin sell them) for ages but could never justify the expense - every time I could afford one I bought a guitar, synth or amp.

Now there's an interesting instrument. I don't think I've ever known anyone who played one.

I might have a trip through to Leeds soon to have a look at Hobgoblin. They've got a 0% interest offer on at the minute...something to do with an Arts Council promotion.

Nice response there Mr EAD bringing together Hurdy Gurdy's and the Fall.

One of the Plant and Page lineups included a Hurdy Gurdy player, here they are on Jools Holland's show:

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with a pint of Hobgoblin except of course if you've got to drink it within earshot of a hurdy gurdy which is challenged only by the banjo for lack of tunefulness. Tuning up sounds like a cat being strangled and when tuned it doesn't sound any better.

There's a fine selection of hurdy gurdey's in the Early Music Shop next to Saltaire Mill, the shrine to Hockney, although he isn't dead yet.

In fact it's a good day out to look at the art in Saltaire Mill and the instruments in the Early Music Shop.

Recommended 5*.

Next you'll be saying a song isn't a song unless it rhymes.
