Message boards give you no idea at all what people are like face to face. When they say something that offends you, you simply can't tell what the intonation is in their voice. You don't know what their conversations are like when they don't have to wait 5 minutes between every riposte.
I'm sure for example that if I had a drink with Snowy he wouldn't beat me round the head with analogies all night. Mad John wouldn't machine gun me with statistics. Mr I wouldn't be carrying a plastic effigy of Lady Thatcher under his arm. Trimdon wouldn't keep stopping to complete the Grauniad crssowdor.

I've had some right old scraps on the Net but as soon as I've met the person involved, the slate has been wiped clean before we even shook hands. The opposite can happen and people don't live up to expectations.

It took me 5 minutes to type that when I'd have got the point across in 10 seconds in a pub!!

Exactly, people have no idea in what context a post is in by reading it. People dont know if your being sarcastic or serious. It's like a text message one sentence could mean so many differnt things.
