I heard someone refer to their colleague as 'buttplug' the other and was mildly amused.

'lovely lovely person'

Example; (insert the name of the current Pools manager) is a 'lovely lovely person', and make no mistake.

Just so I can make sure I have got the gist of that, I will give it a go...

"Chris Turner is a bounder and make no mistake"

Is that correct sctatchinghead

Spot on Mr Grave.

It came naturally to you that, almost as if you had done it before. We'll put it down to beginners luck.

Just shows how far PC has gone.

I went to school with a lad called Blackwood. Can't remember his proper first name cos everyone had nicknames. This lads nickname was Nigger Blackwood. We all ran round the school yard and for instance when you wanted him to pass the ball to you, you shouted 'Nigger'.

No one thought anything of it, he didn't even think of taking offence and I'm sure the teachers heard it.

You can just imagine the PC storm that would cause now. Kids excluded, teachers suspended and sacked, enquiries into racism all over the place.

Funny old world innit.

Actually while on that subject I can recall when I started going to Pools in 88/89. If we come up against a black player such as Juston fashanu I remember sitting in the Mill House and loads of Monkey chants would start up when he got the ball.

Its scary to think that it was not that long ago. Dont get me wrong, I agree that the whole pc thing has gone way way too far but the thought of this sort of behaviour makes me cringe now

One of the best things about football in recent times has been the virtual eradication of racist abuse like this. The last time I heard any was at Scunny on Boxing Day, and several people shouted the offender down, which would never have happened even 10 years ago.

It's an indication of just how unhinged the whole political correctness process ended up when you feel you have to add a "don't get me wrong..." qualifier to such an obvious comment as "racial abuse is bad". I'm sure it all started off with the best of intentions, and it's good that we live in times when it's less common to see whole groups of people dimissed as "darkies" or "cripples". But when it reached the point where you were frowned on for using the word "short" or "black", it had gone some way too far. You now get people who spout all sorts of nasty poisonous shite in the name of being "anti-PC"

I think a lot of the people who pose as politically correct are in fact the real racists, and are stirring shit under the cover of trying not to cause offence to ethnic groups.

The problem for me with the abuse (i.e., over-use) of the Political Correctness card is that now, when you argue that something is totally indefensible, you get tarred with the same brush as the baa baa black sheep banning brigade.
So in the end PC advocates are counter productive because valid complaints get written off as "oh no not the PC brigade" again.

In other words the PC brigade have provided the cliché "PC brigade", which has become a means of dodging the issue. stpid
