Just a thought, but can you name the team you would pick now if you could only choose players who have played under IOR's ownership.

hmmm.....no mention of the player who I believe was the biggest influence on making Pools a winning side with his vision and skill in the late 90's to early 00's.........

Stephenson

for what it's worth I think Stephenson did a hundred times more for Pools than Pedersen ever did

Stevo did wonders for us after a slow start. That goal against Barnet is still one of the best ive seen. Pederson was a better player though, shame we didnt have him for longer.

Harper (if he wasnt under IOR then Dimi)
Barron
Hugh the Hammer
Nelson
Clark

Brown
Monky
Miller
Pederson

Porter
Watson

Subs
Dimi
Boyd
Westy
Stevo
Smith

I fail to see why everyone hasnt put boyd in the first 11 he scored more goals than watson and porter surely that warrents a place in the starting 11

I didnt see a great deal of the Boyd goals due to work. I think Porter is the best player ive seen for Pools and Flash lifted us from bottom to playoffs and was outstanding. There are my reason. Boyd made it onto my bench from the games i did see.

I can only go by what I've seen, so it's selected from a subset of the IOR metasquad and with a limited view of the players I have seen.

Goalie: Jim Provett - if there was one player instrumental in giving us the Neale Cooper mindset it was him
FB Barron, Shuggy - best of a bad bunch
CB Nelson Clark - might have been Westwood but he gets too easily duped into giving history changing penalties away
CM Tinks Sweeney - shoo ins, absolutely no competition
WM - Monkhouse Humphreys - Monkhouse can play just as well on the right: he was enormous against West Ham
STR - Boyd, Porter - no contest

No James Brown I know, but I refer to my opening paragraph: he hasn't impressed in any game I've seen him in. At Donny last season I'd even say he was abysmal.

Bench: Dimi, Ross, Westwood, Boland, Eifion

Trigger would also have to be in the squad for his oustanding squad bonding qualities.

That team with each of it's components at top form would win league one in my humble opinion. I'd include Jan Ove and Steve Harper but I don't think loan singings should count.

and that's why with Pedersen in the team for a whole three months he caused us to win what exactly?
With Stepho in the team we made three play offs and became the side that finally won promotion. His influence was enormous in giving Pools the winning mindset.
No contest, it's achievements that count, not playing well in a dozen games twelve years ago !!!!!

Mr Anthrax (and Mr Firewall), granted I haven't seen all the players of which people speak, but could you please just answer me two questions:

1) Who were our two main central midfield players when we reached the third division play offs two years in sucession?

2) What was our best achievement with your alternative choice.

You piss-taking non-whole-post-reading mofos.

if he is so shite why has he racked up 400+ appearances for the club , humphreys was quality during our promotion season 2002/2003 , much better than Arnison who rarely got a look in  taz

During the period arnison was with us he was victim of his success, and I mean by that when ever we were short in one particular position it was always Arnison who ended up filling that role, he was nevr given a good run in the team- he did have a couple of shockers, but if you gave him a job he would do it

And the fact your argument is how can Ritchie be shi% if he played for pools over 400 times- look at Stuart Dowing for England only had one good game(Germany) yet he’s got over 30 caps!!!!

I do try and avoid this subject these days but I'm going to come back on this one.

Humphreys has been playing for the past four years without having to earn his place. He has had some appauling games but still retained the shirt. Honestly, I completely dismiss that long run of appearances because a fair amount of them we undeserved. For the first few years he was a good player but since 2006 at the very latest he has been rubbish.

Some of these sides just show how we have never really had certain positions covered properly in a number of years. ie both full backs and right wing. Knowles just misses out as going with 3 at back and Tinks to be very deep.

-------------Dimi----------
-----Nelson Barron Westy --
------------Tinks-----------
Brown Pedersen Miller Monky
---------Boyd Porter---------

Holland
Cullen
Gabbiadini
Watson
Collins (Neil)

Jonny, you're embarassing yourself. Sweeney was one of the main motors in our play-off final season. To say otherwise is just being pigshit mulish, blind, or I don't know what.

Answer me a question: since then how many players have scored more than Sweeney in a season? Sweeney did to other teams what all the other teams, even the bad ones, are doing to us now.

It depends on which part of "I've never seen him play" you don't understand. Have you ever lived abroad for a long time, Chip?

well he was very good, someone paid 750k for him, and he has made a million quid out of football.

not only was he probably the best all round midfield player i ever saw in a pools shirt ( close call between him, pedersen and don hutch ), but he was a really fooking decent human being.

i cant recall another player that has took the time to write a letter to the hartlepool mail after his transfer thanking the fans for supporting him
