It's compulsory whenever mentioning Ritche in anything other than glowing terms to use at least 2 of the following caveats:

"Great servant to the club"
"Couldn't meet a nicer lad"
"Of course it's the managers fault for playing him out of position"
"Player of the century"
"Instrumental in the promotion campaign"
"Best left back at the club"
"5 managers can't be wrong"
"Always gives 100%"*

*Cheers Misterb!

Otherwise you could be thought of as being "anti-Ritche".

yes, but made his name as an attacking midfielder, played most of his career as an attacking midfielder. Now being asked to ply his trade as a defender.

He never was, nor will be, a defender, he could do a job there in an injury crisis sure, but as a full time full-back no. I'm sure if you asked him he would agree, however, its up to the manager to decide where he plays.

I'm almost positive that Turner would rather have a proper left back but is waiting til the summer before resolving it.

Until then, we know what we will get from Ritchie. Hard work, lots of effort, poor positional play and poor long range passes down the line, good link up play with monkey and some decent crosses and passes now and again.

Now everyone knows it so why can't they accept that this will be the case until the summer. The chances are that he is the best Left-Back at the club, without taking quality away from the midfield.

I also believe i have included the statutory 2 comments as suggested by Norge Poolie

Damn it!

Forgot that one! Please add "always gives 100%" to the list!

So tree do you think that in the dressing room before a match, Turner pins up the team sheet and has RH down as left back, Humphs should say fook that I'm no defender pick someone else and I will go and find a nice spot on the bench?.

I would expect him to go out and try his best as he does, sadly his best ain't good enough but until there are other options he is all we have.

sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

I simply asked why people refer to him as a midfielder when I thought he played his career as a striker. sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

I suspect you forget that his "career" has been nearly all at Pools, and the vast majority of that not as striker, so to state that he has played his career as striker is wronger than tinfoil FA Cups.

By that logic Stevie Howard is a central midfielder.

Your backing up my original post then as to why people say he should be in midfield.

Nope, you've lost me there, I was pointing out the flaw in your statement that you thought he played his career as striker

Quote:

Wasnt he a striker when he joined us?

People probably say that because that is where he has spent the majority of his time at Pools & had his greatest success in his earlier years. His best performances for Pools have all come in the left midfield slot, which would explain why people use statements akin to your original quote.

Plus people like harking back to the "good old days" it's human nature & why you see so many posts on here linking us with former players.
