David Cameron's kid and Wendy Richards will get all the press coverage.

I'm already cringing about the presses and nations fake outpouring of greif when Goody dies.

These truly brave lads will probably get a mention on about page 57.

Feel sorry for Jade Goody? I don't feel a thing for her. She is a nobody.

Add to the list a Marine who was shot at the weekend and died today, he was flown home so I suppose his loved ones could be with him.

When I was a kid I have vague recollections of hearing on the news every night something about Vietnam. Invariably it was 'in Vietnam today x number of US soldiers were killed when Y happened' Afghanistan is becoming like that, the story is always the same. Soldier dies, commanding officer says that he was 'outstanding', family says they miss him. The rest of the country shakes their head and goes on their merry way.

Afghanistan is unwinnable. Do you realise how big it is? its bigger than western Europe. The enemy move about like ghosts in the night and at the end of the day we have invaded their country.

This could go on for 30 years.

Afghanistan ...... the victim of a demented belief that you can impose western values on a country that has its own values. Why do we in the West, believe we are the arbiters of what's right and wrong? Why don't we just pull out and leave them to their own devices and culture, the idea we are there so that girls can go to Uni to study like girls in the west is just loony.

and there endeth today's lesson.
Sadly the Govt don't see the folly of what they're doing.
All that will happen is another generation of people growing up with hatred and murderous tendencies towards us

I agree that the lads out there fighting get very little or no press coverage when a soldier is seriously injured or killed !! And I agree that it's shockin BUT . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I am disgusted by the amount of threads/comments about Jade Goody n the hatred aimed at her ! She's a mum who is going to leave 2 very very young children without their mother. No matter what you feel about Jade you must be able to see that the amount of press coverage she is seeking throughout her illness is to ensure that her children are well looked after when she is no longer here. Any of you on here who have children should have put yourselves in her shoes for one moment and imagine what it must feel like to know you're goin to be leaving those poor innocent children without a parent. You should all be very very ashamed of yourselves refred

My understanding is that a lot of our lads in Afghanistan (and Iraq) have lost their lives, because of sub-standard equipment
How many of them could we have saved, with a fraction of the money being thrown at the banks !

Oh come on! Jade Goody already has more money than the people on this board put together! She is certainly a multi-millionaire. The amount of press coverage she is seeking now is no different to the amount ahe has been seeking since her stint on Big Brother. It's how she lives her life. To say it's just for her kids is pushing it. Also her children do have a parent, she got married didn't she?

Jade Goody does not interest me. I do not hate her and I do not see why people are so fascinated by her. She's just another example of the celebrity culture that has become more important than real news. That her kids will be without their mother is indeed very sad, but no sadder than hundreds of other families in the same boat who will have to struggle through without the money.

But there's no reason at all to suppose Jade's children wouldn't be looked after, when they're orphaned. Why should the rest of us have to watch someone die in public for financial gain? What would happen if we all died in public for similar reasons? I could go on..........

of course, when your partner, lover and mother of your young children, has been diagnosed with cancer in the last month, and she's having surgery in three weeks, and she will be having chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and two types of drugs, and her chances of survival have gone down, then all the jokes and digs about Wendy Richards and Jade Goody and cancer do start to turn your guts somewhat.
And thats to a few people rather than just yourself.
carry on...

I'd like to see an example of a joke or a dig about either of these two unfortunate ladies. My personal problem is with the press, I quote Ally Ross in his TV column in the Sun (the only weekly thimg apart from the sport worth ever reading in the Sun!) today "Jade Goody. My view, it's a private sadness. The end." I couldn't agree more with him.

People buy tabloids and then moan about whats in them.
People watch Big Brother and then moan about the people in them being plastered over the telly and papers.
They're all about celebrities. You get what you pay for or watch.

PJ, I agree about the press but there have been plenty of digs about Jade Goody.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just that the amount of them seem gut turning and venemous, but maybe its all too close to the bone for me.
OO - I expect better from you, but maybe you're just a bit dense. My first reaction was to say that I want to punch your fucking lights out but my second is to say that I hope the person you love most in the world doesnt get cancer. Because then you might understand how tetchy such flippant remarks can be.

Errr. . . . back to the subject of Afghanistan if I may . . . .

Anyone been watching the Ross Kemp Afghanistan thing on Sky1.
First series was excellent and so is the second, you can watch all the news reports you want but they don't give you any idea of what our forces are actually doing on the ground where this get's right into the front line.
I'm not and never have been in our armed forces so I can only assume that this is an accurate portrayal of what goes on as we're going to get on TV.

Whether you like Ross Kemp or not you should watch it if you're not already.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel- let's just nuke the lot and have done with it once and for all. Waiting for the fallout to clean itself up would be a quicker solution than the current efforts.

Mr WestHpool, best wishes mate, I can't pretend to know what you're going through but I sincerely hope that things can take a turn for the better as soon as possible.
