"this is a sad day in the long history of Darlington Football Club," chairman George Houghton said of the decision in a club statement.

Ok so we all have a laugh at Darlows predicament, but at the end of the day its another lower league club like Pools that could go out of existance and another sorry day for football at our level - whatever we may think, that they brought it on themselves, do we really wish that on a club, any club - at the end of the day it could have been us and how would it feel if we were in their shoes -

it makes you even more thankful for IOR

sad all round for lower league clubs when you see the prem creaming all the coin in
they did say on the news tonight that they had some interest in Darlo thirty minutes after the announcement
hope it works out for them

its very simple for me. if you are a chairman or owners of a club, you have a certain amount of money you can afford to spend. Houghton went in knowing the financal situation and simply didn't have enough money to sustain it. That smacks of bad business to me. He took a risk and failed miserably. We are lucky we have IOR, they are aware of the financial implications of running a club like ours, and don't overpay or try to go too far too fast.

If you can only afford to sustain a club at league 2 level, then don't try and overstretch yourself hoping you will attract thousands more people than you normally do.

The clubs who are struggling now are the clubs who try to get more money by spending it wrecklessly by over paying players etc.

They deserve to be in the predicament they are in, however i do feel sorry for some of the fans at these clubs.

Quite frankly, I couldn't give a shiny shite about 'Loids, or any other club come to think of it

After Gibson fooked off, we had to pay every bounder back, and the vultures stripped us bare, so fook the lot of 'em

It's the real fans I feel sorry for.

There must be some Loids as daft on Darlo as I am on everything POOLS.

Some of the die hard 2800 must be feeling very let down and wondering what the hell is going to happen to their club. sadx

I know I would be feeling as though my heart was being ripped out if it was us going through it.

Yes I am guilty of a chuckle or two today, but on reflection I do feel for the genuine Loids that are going through the mill at the moment and must be wondering why us. taz

After all I hope they survrive and get our derby game back one day.

I am going for a lie down in a darkened room now. bbolt

Interesting to see it is only the football club up for grabs as the ground is staying with the current owners(whoever that is). sctatchinghead

Whats the odds the club is sold within days, and that Indian Bloke and Houghton, are part of the consortium that buy it?

And thats the problem I have with the loids, because they will all party, and gloat that the good days are back again, even though they will have all been fleeced by the two neckenders.

There's an interview on the Northern Echo site. The ground & surrounding land is owned by George Houghton, so possibly the only thing he's lost is the unpaid rent he's been charging them. He talks about losing £60k a week; that survival is possible if 4/5 investors put in £200k/300k each; Pools crowds are 5000! What an out-of-touch-with-reality, so called, business man.

One thing he did get right is the fat-cat Premiership clubs who couldn't care less about the Coca Cola Football League

Fully agree. So before all the clamouring re-starts about buying the ground & splashing out on players, let's keep that in mind. Didn't West Hartlepool Rugby Club splash the cash on players & end up paying the penalty? Maybe IOR have seen from this what can happen, or not happen, in the town

I think there is a danger that a LOT more clubs will be facing a crisis over the next 12-18 mths, hopefully IORs tight financial grip will pay dividends in as much as we do not become one of those clubs.

Tony Parry mentioned earlier about some divisions becoming semi pro, well I think we will see the first semi pro teams in our leagues in the not too distant future.

Semi pro teams in the Northern League Division 1
Coming to a stadium near you violin

But at least the premiership players and teams will survive

Yeah, right.

Something smells funny about all this (not just the Darlo fans!).

Administration usually follows warnings the from the Chairman, pleas for increased support, unpaid debts, players not getting paid etc etc.

If you'd told me to guess the League 2 club going into admin this week, Darlo would have been low down the list.

At the outset, I think George Houghton said that he was in this till 2010 he has gone a season earlier, having got the ground and surrounding area for development which he still holds. The credit crunch came and crunched him, also the Darlo council have been dragging their heels on planning permission,
I said some time ago that it is a great conference centre with a lovely garden in the middle.

Yes West did splash all their cash and assets on the playing side. They gambled absolutely everything and it was lousy business. But they didn't have anywhere near the same resources as the Norwegians. We're talking magnitudes of difference.

I somehow can't see Larsen mortgaging oil platforms to buy new players and pay their wages.
