From BBC sports gossip,

England's bid team for the 2018 World Cup have identified the home of rugby union, Twickenham, as a possible venue for matches. (Various)

I blame Lord coe surely we have enought decent grounds without resporting to there

They are probably looking there because of the capacity, I think Twickenham holds around 75,000 so that will make more money from the paying spectator, plus it is in London which means one less ground to pick oop north

Since they rebuilt the South Stand it's up to 80-something thousand capacity now - the biggest sports stadium in the UK outside of the new Wembley.
I bet they're not equipped for crowd segregation though.

No segregation and its got the worst transport connections. It would be mayhem in the avenues around the ground if rival supporters mingled. I'm sure thats why the FA chose Cardiff over Twickers when Wembley was rebuilt.

No segregation????!!!!

Jesus, there'll be carnage in the streets, I mean the prospect of football fans behaving themselves is unthinkable!!!!

There'll be toe-to-toe everywhere and inadequate OB presence, with innocent bystanders being stabbed all over!! The scarfers will be running for their lives. bbolt

Aren't we rather perpetuating our own myth here??

I refer the honorable gentleman to the Grimsby vs Lincoln post. We're only assuming the rozzerocractic worst. Image

I refer the honorable gentleman to the fact that the Serbs may play the Croats or the Turks may play the Greeks or Germany may play Poland or the Jocks may play anyone. Oh forget the last option on reflection rolfl .

it's all to do with not having enough space outside grounds like Anfield or Stamford Bridge for media centres & such like...

When I went there the transport away from the place was excellent. We had tickets to leave Kings Cross but when we got to the queue for the train station out of Twickenham we thought that we would miss our train because the queue was massive, but trains arrived going in both directions around every 5 minutes, we even had time to grab something to eat before our train left Kings Cross
