Donna Powell, a turnstile operator, paid £500 to take charge of Fisher Athletic's Blue Square South game against Eastleigh, becoming the first ever female to manage a men's professional football team in a competitive fixture.

I'll be interested to see how she does.

It seems that glass ceiling has more and more cracks appearing in it day by day - I don't think it will be long before we see a female Football League manager.

Hope Powell (England Senior Women's side) for 'Pools boss anyone?

How desperate do a club have to be to do that for 500 bar, sad really.

Gimmicky publicity stunt, I hope they lose 15-0 and get fined £600 by the league which something like this surely devalues?

(I'm not being sexist before any budding feminists get on my back, it would be just as absurd if a male fan was allowed to pay to be manager).

It's her own money she's paid, she's got £500 on the line here. The money gets invested in the Club.

I personally hopes she does well. A great victory for social equality in sport, that's what I say.

I hope she doesn't get heckled by thecrowd though.

I wonder what Miss Grabec thinks of this.

Isn't it completely disrespectful to the other team and doesn't it devalue to league though?

She shouldn't be managing the team, she should be making the half time teas and sandwiches.

Well, um...unaccustomed as I am.....

This seems to be a choice between a manager who plays long balls and hasn't donated £500 to the Club, and a manager who has donated £500 and is determined to play short balls, so in conclusion, I declare it a no-brainer

Did anyone read about the plans a TV company had for Oldham, the world top female footballer a Brazillian woman called Marta was going to play for Oldham in a pre season game before the start of this season. The deal was called off at the when the Oldham manager thought his team would be the laughing stock of the football league.
