Well I've read that article and I can see where we went wrong in the last war, we didn't have an advertising campaign on the Berlin Odeon, the Cologne singleplex or all 12 viewers on 'NaziTV' .... we could have had some pleasantly smooth voiced actor, to a film of the British countryside in high summer saying.... " Are you considering invading and ethnically cleansing a country near you ...? If so, why not invade France or Spain, the weather's better and we can guarantee we'll turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to any barbaric practices you may care to indulge in with Johnny Foreigner, discretion being guaranteed at all times. Might we also point out that the weather can be a bit damp and we won't take too kindly to it ...... remember, invasions can go tits up as well as succeed."

Did you see that programme on UKTV history about the real Dad's Army? In the 1970s they ran a simulation of a German attack on Britain (assuming they had access to our skies) and basically what happened was the Royal Navy fooked Fritz's supply lines up and the invasion foundered on the second line of defence infrastructures we'd furiously built. Many lives were lost on both sides.
German and British high-ranking officers from the war both participated.

I read a report on that in the early 80's. The Germans were relying for the most part on moving their forces across the channel in converted barges towed in groups by tugs, protected by the Luftwaffe, the Kriegesmarine were on their bare bones after the Norwegian campaign. The element of surprise may have covered the initial landing, but after that it was bleak.
One of the most annoying moments in history for me was when the Germans reoccupied the Rhineland in the 30's, the German General Staff were bricking it because they were convinced the French were gonna crush their then token army, but the French ignored them. If they had re-acted, the German General Staff were going to depose Hitler. Think of the lives save dand misery averted
