ditto what Chip said about the ratings - there were glaring weaknesses on our left, Humphreys and Robson should have been switched around and I think that at least would have stopped the problem with their right winger, and at the same time would have stopped Robson from punting the ball into nowhere. He needs to stop and think when he's in possession, but he just doesn't - and if he hasn't learned that now, then he never will. At least if Humphreys had been in that position, he would have put his foot on the ball and looked for a pass - Robson just got rid of it straight away and they recovered possession.
Apart from that and the usual heart-in-mouth stuff from Barrett when crosses come into the 6 yard area, it was an unbelievable rearguard effort, especially from those in the centre, cos the ball kept coming in from our left hand side.

An interesting read for a change Chip. Thanks.

Me and Parmo were talking about Humphreys a few weeks ago, it's not nice watching a footballer that you have respected for years deteriorate in the fashion that he is. It was similar with Mark Tinkler a few years ago. He is OK when he's got the ball but I think he is a poor defender. He is getting in the team because of his status at the club and because he is seen as a leader but there is only so far these qualities can get you.

His inability to contest with quality right wingers is continually leaving us exposed, the turning point for me at Brighton was when their black lad came on with 30 minutes to go and started having a go at Richie. They'd never really threatened before then.

Robson's form worries me, he has been below par for about 6 or 7 games now which followed a similar period where he was clearly our best player. I think he has been found out by a lot of teams and is suffering because of a lack of confidence. It's a shame we can't drop him to be honest, I think he'd benefit from a game on the bench, bring him on for the last half hour to torture a team's right back and he'd get his confidence back.

Nelson looks a far better player since Clark has partnered him and that central defence partnership is solid. We just need to cement the 3 positions around them with some real quality. When Turner took over in 1999 the first thing he did was identify our defensive problems and brought in Strodder, we need him to do somthing similar now.

Glad you enjoyed it, I wasn't bothered one iota about being at work and missing it as I was convinced we would lose and I think under Wilson we probably would be it shows you that Turner is making some improvement and I am very happy to concede I was wrong.

one thing that's not in doubt is Ritchie's committment to HUFC, that must be put to good use. I'm just wondering if they're waiting for him to get the all time appearance record, and then use him as a squad player, and I'm sure they've already sent him to Indonesia as the club's representative in the relationship with the club out there. He's an intelligent bloke, and Pools is his team now - but as some have already said on here let's remember him for all the storming good performances he put in, and not the ones he's putting in now.
