I have just come back from sledging with my kids. Our school is closed today and I tto remeber 1979 very well: I give you a winter of discontent, lightning strikes, beleaguered labour prime minister, government bail out with the IMF, Pools having a cup run and 4 postponments against Leeds Utd and massive snow.

Just wish we had Bob Newton !

Some more 1979 parallels for Ian Crumplin read Michael Mackay. For John Watson & 3 other keepers in a dodgy rearguard read any of ALB or Jan Butt for Steve Brooks read Sam Collins

Crewe bottom of the league in 1979 - just the division has changed.

Did the wooden dressing rooms leak in the snow!!!!!!!!!!!!

The aforementioned Alan Fog..horn had the prolific 2 in 18 record in 1977-1978 and folklore in TTV Shoot !

foggon was the fattest footballer i ever saw. he was leaning on the post at a corner, gasping for air after a 10 year jog, and i thought he was going to have a coronary.

someone chucked a tab end on the pitch and he had a couple of drags off it.

also remember alan starling playing in goal against us ( for huddersfield ? ) and someone in the town end hoyed half a pie at him and he started eating it.

I should think he would be nackered after 10 years!! rolfl

funnily enough me and parmo were talking about 1979 on the train back yesterday. we both reckoned dick malone was the slowest player we ever saw in a pools shirt. he looked about 90 an all.

Thing about Dick Malone (AND Tommy Gibb AND Derrick Downing AND McMordie) was that they always had great games against decent teams...it was the run-of-the-mill matches when they blatantly couldn't be arsed, especially McMordie.
Tommy Gibb was always the whipping boy for the boo boys on the Mill house side, did he get some stick.

Wasn't that the game where Roy Hogan and Kevin Johnson got sent off for fighting each other?
