Oh bugger. We really can't afford to lose proper musicians, especially of that quality.

Bye Bye, John.

First Davy Graham now John Martyn. The excesses of the 60's seems to be catching them up and they're going down like flies.

John Martyn though had already lost at least one leg due to circulatory problems brought on by smoking so, hey, be careful out there.

Update - John Martyn 11th September 1948 - 29th January 2009.......60's a bit young like innit.

i was only talking to a friend about him the other week saying how he is criminally overlooked as id listened to solid air for the first time in yonks and was blown away by how good it is, and went out and bought one world. a huge loss to music

Showing my musical ignorance now, but I've never heard of him. Playing some youtube in the background to check him out, and May You Never is the only song, so far, that I recognise.

Like Dick Gaughan and Richard Thompson, Mr BP, John Martyn settled for just being a genius.
Appealing to the plebs wasn't his thing.

I guessed that when reading up on him, and found out one of his Albums is called "Well Kept Secret".

Solid air, dedicated to his died-young chum Nick Drake.

I get the impression Martyn absorbed Drake's style into his own; he was a lot more folky at the outset.
