£12'000 each to the families of anyone killed in Ireland including PIRA players. Who comes up with this shite?

If they give them a shilling I will send the medal back, in fact I'll start a campaign to get lots of people to send the medal back.

It's certainly an emotive issue but let's try to keep the peace.

To an extent. There are a lot of women in NI who have lived off the bones of their arse because their innocent husbands were killed. I dare say that 12k to a poor widow would be a welcome few quid. As for the families of the IRA, well forgive me if I'm not entirely sympathetic, IRA membership was usually a family affair.

£300 Million, nice to see the taxpayer has flash cash. So does every family, that lost a member (including those of the Black and Tans) get a wedge?
These nutters have gone and possibly cost us about £360000, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shankill_Butchers banghead

Then there are all the families of all the mainland campaigns, the mind boggles.
I wonder if I can get a claim if one of my distant relatives was over there with Cromwell, and got himself lost in a peat-bog sctatchinghead .

Great idea, let's give the damned bounders a wedge of BRITISH money as well as letting them be members of Parliament as well.

Aye, I do agree, but this full fucking mess needs to be put behind us without the stupid not nice people in Whitehall throwing around that much money.

John, how much does the family of a dead soldier get these days for a death in mid east?

For injuries its up to £285k, for death in service its 4 x annual salary (don't get excited). Typically a soldier is expected to take out specially arranged insurance to look after families.

Oh by the way, don't be a widowed forces wife with small children living in a married quarter. As soon as your husband is killed you are no longer entitled to stay in the house as a civilian.

In the main its junior ranks that are killed. Not exclusively but predominantly. Average GROSS salaries are as follows;

Private/Sapper/Marine/Trooper/Other bottom of the ladder ranks. £17'500
Lance Corporal £25'000
Corporal £28'000

Or are the Irish government or should i say, people, going to compensate the families of the 18 British soldiers who were gunned down the day after Mountbatten was killed, in the Warrenpoint ambush?

I don't fooking think so.

I know about half a dozen lads who were at Warrenpoint and too a man they are still messed up. Ever looked at the ages of the lads who died in that attack? Even the way it was done was beyond belief. Bomb one took out a truck, bomb two was detonated as the rest of the lads came to help.

Sometimes you have to make very unpopular decisions to get things to stick.
I bet the Spanish would give 300 megas tomorrow to get the ETA off their backs for good.
