We gave a good showing of ourselves today, thats the main thing. Shame that ref is still a clueless 'lovely lovely person' rage

Not quite sure how Cole stayed on the pitch either.

We still need another striker in my opinion, Mackay im sorry is never going to be good enough, watching him bottle every header is cringeworthy. Need someoen upto who can keep the ball and bring people in to the game. Henderson seems similar style to Mackay and Foley to me but could be too early to say. Monkhouse looks our most creative player alongside Joel of course but he aint a right winger. He aint astriker either but id rather see up up front with Joel than on the right wing. ALB had a good game too, was impressive, came off his line very quickly and was brave too. I cant make my mind up about Jones at all though. sctatchinghead

Well done lads!!

A good performance all round but the difference in class showed. The penalty never was and proved crucial but West Ham controlled the game very well. They weren't a bunch of premiership primadonnas, they were a hardworking team of good players. For us to have beaten them today they would have had to have taken it too lightly, they didn't so the class came through.

Nevertheless, Pools have nothing to be ashamed of and one of two players will have gained the interest of higher league teams.

Joel looked very busy on the TV chasing down everything and Liddle looked like he was starting to regain some of his poromtion season form

Ironically, I reckon Lee-Barrett got a lot of interest from clubs - his performance was outstanding today.

I have to say I saw the game live for the first time in two years and I wondered what all the previous comments about ALB being useless were all about. He threw hiself all over the place and if the ball wasn't hidden behind Nelse when the shot went in I reckon he'd have had that as well. I know you can't judge a player on one game but he earned his cash yesterday.

How he didn't end up paggering Cole is still a mystery though. In a Prem game if someone farts near the keeper he gets a free kick but apparently in a Cup game you can try open heart surgery and a rhinoplasty with your studs on the keeper and get a finger wagging telling off.

Got to say as an Iron that was an unusual performance by us. Usually we lose these kinds of ties. We basically just did what we had to do. It definitely wasn't a penalty, though.

Barret has been dreadful at times Kev - yesterday's performance bucked that trend big style!!!
I was very impressed by him and also pleasantly, but highly delighted he finally produced a performance like he did.
I and many others believed he didn't have it in him, but he showed us at last that he CAN perform well between the sticks.

Kev, usually ALB is a very poor judge of the trajectory of the ball. It's his outstanding weakness.
He had relatively few trajectories to judge on Saturday. His good performance was largely due to his getting stuck in fearlessly and closing down shots.

You're right Mr Head, an example of his weakness was the Nelson header that he somehow allowed to hit the bar early on, he didn't even get a hand on it.
