I heard last night that he hasn't signed for anyone, how would he have? He may have been offered terms if he returns to Australia but is that as clear cut as people are making out? Didn't we hear the same pap from Wellington Phoenix last season? If Pools offered him the contract and the length he's after I think he'd stay. We should pull out all the stops because how would it be possible for a club for our resources to replace a player of Porter's quality?

Agreed we need to keep him but pre-contract arrangement may have been signed

How could a contract have been 'signed'. Logically when or how did that happen, did they meet half way in Dubai!?

Hasnt Turner already said something along the lines of "we wanted to keep him but there was nothing we could do"??

Well not a direct quote but the Mail states "Turner revealed Pools would love to keep Porter at Pools but admitted there was nothing the club could do to prevent the 30 year old leaving"

The Mail must be making quotes up then?

No, you are just misreading them, plus he wasn't quoted;

"Director of sport Chris Turner revealed Pools would love to keep Porter at Pools but admitted there was nothing the club could do to prevent the 30-year-old leaving."

How much would it cost to replace Porter with a player of the same calibre £100k+ maybe plus wages say another £150+ wages over three years.

If the Porter decided to go back home for reasons other then football there is not much we can do but if it is just football reason surely we can tempt him with an offer that gives him something to think about.

Come on Pools We NEED to keep players like Porter if we want to achive anything.

Yeah, because international footballers often sign for clubs by post it happens all the time, that's why the Kaka deal is delayed apprently Man City didn't pay the correct postal charge.

it would have been a pre contract agreement not a contract - he is still contracted to us and why couldnt that happen by post?

The Canberra Times reports that Gold Coast are running up against a salary cap so may not be able to offer much to other new players since they spent too much on Culina. So if Joel hasn't already signed then there may not be too much money on the table. Come on Ken - get your wallet out.

If he hasn't already signed (which he hasn't) that means they only have about £40,000 a year left to offer, Joel is worth more than that :coool:

If he hasn't signed and 4-4-2 Australia is wrong and Gold Coast's chairman was not correct when he said "the ink is drying on his contract".

Then listen to me Joel.

I know the English weather is crap, England is crap. But...some people are born to be legends. You've become one at Hartlepool. Your my favourite EVER player and Chips and everyone elses. Your one of the best strikers to play for Hartlepool. Everybody thinks your God.

Please stay.

I'm sure Chip will put it in a much better way mind.

Best forward line at Pools since Allon and Bakes without a doubt. But from what ive been told (who i would tend to believe before most of the rumour mongers) i would think Joel will be away.

Its a tussle. I preferred work man like players/teams like we had then 90-91 but the team Porter and Boyd was in was just sublime to watch. Quick passing football we played with Porter and Boyd was a joy.

Porter & Boyd was the best forward line since Ernie Pythian & Jimmy Mulvaney.
