From what i saw he was took of (gilligan) and as he was going of he booted a water bottle into the dugout and sat down in a big sulk throwing his boots all over and then one of the coaches got in his face and then all hell kicked off and then it became funny

Hi all, i'm a northampton fan, obviously didn't go tonight (came last year though) but heard what happened on our local coverage, needless to say, the manager covered it up in his interview by saying nothing happened, also, our official site and local paper aren't saying anything about it.

anyone know a bit more about what happened, or who he hit, namely, player or a coach?

cheers for having me.

the crowd on the Cyril Knowles Stand side where the incident took place certainly made some pantomime-style cheers. I never seen it personally, but something must have happened over there, as there was a bit of commotion in the dugouts

sounds alot like it could have been our goalkeeping coach, jim barron, he's about 66!
the speculation from our radio coverage is that he kicked a bucket/bottle, and then possibly something was mentioned by a coach member such as "grow up" or "stop being so pathetic" with regards to being subbed, and then he just swung for them. but they were in the camerons brewery stand.

It's sad really, because Gilli really has a heart of gold and has really been a great asset to have at the club, although, maybe ironically, mostly as a sub!
he's been subbed alot this year from his starts despite generally being our only hope of attack down the right flank so understand he's disappointed, but if hes really hit out at an old boy like barron, he's in for it.

sad times for my cobblers violin

id say he had a fair bit of pace like, matty cudnt beat him for pace, so i bet he thought jackpot when he went off. i cant understand why he got took off though, he was playing ok imo, decent right back, if your gunna sell him because of this incident, can we have him??

i think that was his problem, he gets taken off every week when hes playing well and the only lad linking up with the strikers.

its getting bleak now cos in november, december and so far in jan our strikers have only got 3 goals between them, and two of those came from loanees!

you might have picked up on our forward constantine being pretty poor tonight? well, ok most of our team..

the feeling is its the end of the road for gilligan so you might as well have him, but we'll only sell him in exchange for jonny rowell, what a legend he is!

where i sit at our home ground, we can give the subs plenty of banter, in the reverse fixture this year we gave jonny a fair bit of banter and he got involved with it which was a laugh.

you should have put boards up with the words on that you were saying, then quickly thrown them away ( Bob Dylan song-style), as quick as you said it so we could have read it from the away end.

I think I'm losing the plot

It shows big problems when a team begins brawling in that manner. I thought it was hillarious...but if we ever did it I'd be horrified.

The lad brought off was there man of the match and had kept matty in his pocket all night - when subbed - as he came off there was a spare football on by the touch line - he wellied it into the Northampton dug out (luckily it missed everyone) .... what a bang as it hit the back of it! next thing a grey haired guy and the sub were locked together - then everyone else became involved .... the lad had a right to be peeved at being brought off if you decide to sell him - let us know!! It was funny rolfl

haha, we'll keep it in mind for next season, barring you dont gatecrash the playoffs & we don't have our whole squad beat eachother to kingdom come stpid

the latter might be a close call though, oh that and the fact we'll get relegated if we keep perfomances like that up!

the game at your place was similar to tonights in many ways, and not just cos both were friday night games.

i thought we played the better football down there and got undone by a good finish/some bad defending. it also didnt help that kevin kyle had the worst game by any player ever anywhere.

on the basis of that game i thought we would win tonight. we went in front early on thanks to a good finish and some bad defending.

after that you had a lot of possession without ever realy looking like scoring. akinfenwa is ideal for our centre halves as he seems to lose the plot if he doesnt get all his own way in the first 20 minutes. he was eventually booked for dissent.

the second goal was a rare bright spark in a fairly drab game.

after that town seemed to accept the defeat, especially when constantine missed the target with a header from 6 yards out when probably most of the northampton fans in the rink end would have scored given the same opportunity.

our dodgy keeper never had a shot on target to save.

that was only our 2nd league win in 10 games and i have to say northampton were as bad a team as we have played at the vic all season. its certainly rare for us to be untroubled at the back.

i felt at sixfields you were a much better team and made all the openings in the match. which was a marked improvement from the drab game i saw up at victoria park last february, and we did not deserve that win by any account. although on a similar note, can lee-barrett really be more dodgy than budtz if memory serves me well??

i know you've not been on the best of runs lately, but teams on bad runs always seem to bounce back against northampton, while in form teams stumble vs us, odd really?

as i said in a previous post our forwards are a huge worry, and have only scored 3 goals between them in 3 months. constantine couldn't hit a barn door, and akinfenwas hot and cold, as you noticed, he was kept at bay at the start and this puts him out of his depth sometimes.

all in all, your round up seems very fair and i'm greatly appreciative of the effort you've made so nice one mate

Well spotted! rolfl

Lee-Barrett is decidedly average at everything whereas Budtz can be brilliant one minute and as useful as a paraplegic on a pushbike the next.

Unfortunately for us neither are better than Northern League standard. sadx

Sorry. :uhoh:

Northern League is a bit harsh.

Neither is good enough to be a regular firsst choice League One keeper though.

But Lee-Barrett is young enough to get better and would get my vote between the two of them every time.

Me? Negative?

You're joking aren't ya?

I just call it as I see it.

Last night was an excellent result. It wasn't a greatly entertaining game but the whole team played well and it was a good win against a team who aren't relegation fodder.

Our keeper kept a clean sheet and Mackay had what I reckon was his best game in a Pools shirt. Our defence looked more solid than recently, Humphreys had a cracking game, McCunnie played excellently and the centre halves gave me confidence.

I just hope that Collins doesn't walk straight back into the team when he's fit.

Budtz is Northern League Standard, ALB is no where near that level. We just have to pray we keep playing teams who cant manage shots on target.

I thought Humps had one of his better games, defensively that is last night. Maybe due to him not having a quick winger against him but he put in some vital blocks early doors and swept up well behind the two centre halfs when needed.

its possible that we have gone back to basic no nonsense defending with the emphasis on clearing our lines and not worrying where the ball ends up of course.

To be fair if we have that's 3 home wins out 4 win all the wins being clean sheets, we look a lot more solid it may be a bit no frills but we need points. In the Stoke game and last night ALB hasn't even been exposed to a serious shot on target from the opposition hence the clean sheets!

I pray to God one of our managers would just call Nelson into his office and say "pass to the fucking midfield instead of launching long balls no where fucking near any of our men every fucking time!"

Agree with the case of distribution from the defence last night and for a while now, it has been very poor.

We need to get to the summer in this league and start a re-building process. This season is going very much as last years, last years was understandable as it was our first year back up. This year if anything we have gone slighty backwards and we need to stop it before its too late. Staying up is all we need to focus on this year. We certainly have enough quality to do it.
