PostPosted: Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:44 pm
Noticed that West Ham have already sold their allocation for the big game. Seems amazing that their fans can travel a round trip of over 600 miles to see the game when there are some Pools "fans" saying they can't be bothered to go as its on the telly. Anything less than a sell out ( and that only needs 6500 Poolies) would be a disgrace and show to the watching nation that we are indeed "just a small club somewhere up north".

When I worked for the Sunderland Echo, part of my duties was to be in charge of a team selling fanzines outside of the Stadium of Shite (THE most soul destroying job of all time). They played the hammers in a 12:30 kick off in the FA cup and if my memory serves me right they brought 8000 fans.
It doesn't surprise me one bit that their allocation has sold out!

It's definitely another game that Pools have lost out on by having such a small away end. We must have lost money every season for years now by only letting in 950, surely the club must want to expand it soon? Regardless of whether they own the ground, it's money lost.

If I thought there was a chance of getting a ticket, a whip round for me travel expenses and a bed for the night I'd be there like a shot even if I had to go to McDonalds for me dinner rather than watch it on the telly ..like.

Hahahaha! I'm with it now Frodraff, but one fookwitted, half a brain-celled comedian who lives 250 mile away doesn't constitute "fans" who can't be bothered to go as its on the telly....does it?

Sorry like, but who is that aimed at? I am sure ALL pools fans will be there. Therefore to sell out, we need about 1500 non pools fans. When will people get their head round the fact that to sell out we will have 1500 tourists that dont actually support pools?
But if Pools could link the game with a trip around the historic quay the tourists would be delighted.

Where did I say we could? That said if the capacity was 12,000 we wouldnt fill it for the Hammers game even if they brought 3-4000

What is WRONG in what Ive said above - I DID NOT state Pools could accomodate 11,00o merely made the point the Southend had a crowd of over 11,000 and I dont belive that wed get a full house even if we could accomodate such numbers - that NOT WRONG merely my opion which you disagree with - neither of us know as its hypothetical

Agreed it's hypothetical but anyone with half an ounce of common sense knows we could get more than 8000 home fans for this game.

So why did you mention Southends gate then, what is a snide comparison or do you randomly come out with gates at unconnected clubs, a sort of 'Capacity Tourettes' ....?

Anyone care to guess what our average crowds were the last five games before 16000 turned up to watch us play Leeds after two rearranged dates?

No the comment was in relation to our percpetion by the southern press and if we have a full house then that would change it which I dont think it would anyway - my point was also that there are Southend playing to a full house of 11000+ when we probably wont get over 6500 for teh WH game

I'd guess around the 1200 mark as I think that period took in our lowest ever crowd of 860ish v Stockport if Im not mistaken

Very odd this, you can come out with a stat like that but get totally mixed up over Turners first signings.

sorry mate genuine mistake over the Turner/Knowles thing - I was one of the few at that game with the lowest attendance and I seem to remember a sequence of poor gates/results in the run up to the Leeds game

guess I must be a loid then

How long would it take to repay the cost of building a new stand at the Rink end based on the number of times it would get filled and the cost of a ticket? It might actually be a loss making exercise.
