My old and slow computer is old and slow on tinterweb- if I used firefux instead of IE would it be a bit better?

i think firefox just makes it less likely that your computer dies of aids rather than making the internet faster.

But is it slow cos it's already dying of aids?

more likely just your computer or internet is shite, you could try firefox like wouldnt do any harm

Firefox is the better of the 2 browsers Mr R, you don't get rid of IE you use which ever one takes your fancy, firefox has a built in spell checker which is handy for me, some of the online TV sites and games site don't let you use Firefox.

Install an add-on called "IE tab", then if a site is really, REALLY, stubborn about using Internet Exploder and you're really, REALLY willing to prostitute yourself, you don't have to leave your Firefox environment or suffer silly Microsoft warnings.

I'm now using Firefuxfor the first time.

use Google Chrome instead - its much better.

That is a matter of opinion.
With Google Chrome there aren't any add-ons: no adblock, no flashblock, no download helper, no nutt'n, and you can't even install it where you want on your own machine.
So yes, it does sound better.
