See page 9 rule 3 of the thread Oi, You! TPP Im not going to the West Ham game ( started by POK)

That tells you what I think of it.

There is one consolation of it being a bag of s**te it means Terry Wogan has one less show on tv, and he nearly as bad as the contest itself.

I stumbled across that mini X-factor thing on Saturday. Thank fook I missed the start. Sir Webber has gone right down in my estimation if he rates those acts.

There again, we didn't see the ones that got rejected did we.

By the way, can we stop calling Lloyd Webber a songwriter. Songs have lyrics. That's why Webber needs Rice more than Rice needs Webber.

Clue: how many Bjorn and Benny tunes can you remember compared with Lloyd Webber tunes?

In my opinion it was very good compared to other selection contests and you would expect the acts to be a little rough around the edges like they were on Week One. The live shows give the singers the opportunity to present what kind of singer they want to be in Moscow, ALW can see what they can achieve before he and Diane Warren write the song and lyrics that will lead us to glory etc.

As for ALW hits we can remeber what about Jesus Christ Superstar (walks like a woman and wears a bra), Any Dream Will Do with Jason Donovan and Lee Mead ?

I liked Scooch, Precious, Katrina (of course, I liked it - it won), Gina G (class), Bucks Fizz, Lynsey de Paul/Mike Moran (class song from them), Brotherhood of Man, Cliff Richard (should have won - damn you General Franco!), Lulu, Sandie Shaw.

See people forget that Olivia Newton John wouldn't have been a star in Grease if Eurovision hadn't made her career known to a global audience.

People also forget about the New Seekers doing that, going on to do the song for the famous Coca Cola advert, I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing, one of the greatest TV ads ever.

People forget about Matt Monro beginning his career through this contest and going on to sing the famous title track to one of the most famous British films ever in Born Free .

People forget about Mary Hopkin making her name through Opportunity Knocks - even Elvis liked Mary Hopkin !

I remember Wycombe Wanderers playing Cliff Richard's Congratulations when we won promotion - I thought that was a nice touch.

There have also been a couple of headlines in them media about 'Pools that have been Eurovision influenced -
Wycombe 2007: Sparkling 'Pools produce Bucks fizz ! (Hartlepool Mail)
Stoke 2009: Potters meet their Waterloo at hands of Nelson and Foley (Daily Mail)

That was a class song, that.

It just goes to prove, Sussex that we don't need to win the contest to produce a great and successful song.

She came 8th in the contest but she topped the UK charts with it.

Well, Eurovision was, and always has been, always will be, a family show.

I would expect the contestants in this particular contest to have a little bit of previous, not to be someone Aunty Ethel sent along because the dog always wags its tail when they start singing.

But isn't that the whole beauty of it in my opinion - that anyone regardless of occupation, class etc can rise to become our representative - the only they need is natural ability.

Look at Andy Abraham last year, he was just a dustbin man, before he decided to audition for the X Factor, if he headn't have auditioned for that, we wouldn't know about him and he wouldn't have decided to do Eurovision. He did X Factor got all the way through to the final - do you remember?

It was Andy Abraham, Journey South (who get a lot of stick on here) and Shayne Ward - Andy beat Journey South to 2nd place and Journey South were actually quite good I thought.

Shayne Ward has done very little since - but this thing of singers not managing to sustain a career after making themselves known isn't just a Eurovision thing, it happens in all these types of competitions.
