Post subject: Has anyone on here successfully contested a parking ticket?
PostPosted: Sat Dec 02, 2006 1:36 am
I got one this week and the reason was, my pay & display ticket was incorrectly displayed

Now as far as I am concerned, it wasn’t, it was slap bang in the middle of my windscreen , the right way up etc etc

There's your defence then. Make sure you keep a copy of the ticket.

Lots of times. I never pay them, just write to them and say you have a copy of the valid ticket and would they kindly cancel the charge.

Once I got one in Camden and it said my car was white. It was silver so I said whatever vehicle he was looking at it wasn't mine.

They have to be 100% accurate. It seems in your case they weren't.

I did two year ago.

Parked near kings wet fish in johnson st. not in a bay, no yellows, away from junction, badly signed and got away with it as i never saw the signs and explained how and no fine to pay.

I blamed a bus and the sunshine for preventing me from seeing the signs.

rolfl

There's loads of regulations - if they dont have their cap on when they give you a ticket or even not dressed correctly then it's not vaild - there again you have to see them put it on though - sleeves rolled up falls into this category too.

always always appeal

got off with a speeding offence too - that was my favourite.

ticket for speeding at seaton and it specifically said 'THE FRONT, SEATON CAREW' - it was coronation drive - known colloquilaly(fook knows how to spell this) as the front, went to court and told them the photo shows me 678 yards away from where the offence is supposed to have taken place!!!

case dismissed

I once contested one, got a notice saying I hadn't payed a fine in Blackpool. As on the day in question me and the car were 50 miles away (and at that point I hadn't been to Blackpool for 4 years!) I wrote back pointing out that the car was mis-identified as a Nissan, that I'd been at work and could prove it due to clocking records. Got a letter back blaming a transcription error and cancelling it!

of course.

which makes it even sweeter rolfl

Was never put in the paper which I was a bit aggrieved about because everyone else who was caught and charged for speeding on THE FRONT at seaton, would have been able to appeal against it.

I also had a close shave down your neck of woods off notts police on the M1

I was driving to Leamington one day and as you do slowed down when approaching and passing services (Trowell) - no Police cars visible in rear mirror so toes it again.

Next thing I know a car is right up me so I moved over into middle lane, eased off without braking to let the car pass and it followed me into the middle lane - it was then that i presumed that someone wanted to follow me until i stopped and bum fook me or it was an unmarked plod. It was unmarked plod.

Lights on and pulled over on hard shoulder.

PC quote "you lucky bastard, i had you at 97 which is a decent fine and a 28 day ban, but i pressed the wrong button and had to follow you some more and only got you at 89.7"

one not so muffled laugh, a fart and a large exhale, and £60 + 3 pts only later, I now drive a lot less and more responsibly also

So, taking the pinciple of law and not the relativity of the offence....... if the copper who caught the Yorkshire Ripper had put down the wrong address where he apprehended him, should the Ripper have been allowed off on a technicality....?

Good point, Snowy, and speeding isn't so inocuous either.
Recently a little girl round the corner from us was knocked down and killed by some idiot doing 45 in a 30mph zone. She would probably have survived if he'd not been speeding. Not so funny, is it?

Speeding's a bit like drink driving was 30 years ago. I often wonder what they do with the extra couple of minutes they save.... confised

yes he would have got let off as the police by their own foolishness and over zealousness to prosecute innocents that they are now bound that the rules that their malbehaviour has enforced.

doesn't mean it's right does it though but to get away with an offence that you've allegedly committed is always a boon.

Just to clarify an issue or two here - at seaton i was doing 34 in a 30, that's 34 not 45 on an open road in a non residential area. Once always pays extreme attention when driving during residential areas.

The motorway offence was on a good friday at 8 o clock in the morning and i still got caught, jusy not with the severity that the initial speed may have merited. However, there are far greater injustices dished out in this world today.

Again, the killed child and her friends and family have my utmost sympathy, and nothing would anger me more, but what were the full details of the crash - was the child alone in the road? where were her parents etc - the motorist does get blamed for a lot although 45mph is extreme.

To class speeding and drink driving in the same category is ludicrous - the majority of drivers speed yet bieng in full control of their facilities they will be able to brake and slow down, but drive drunk, or even with a drink or two in your system and it's a WHOLLY different story.

If the speed limit was 30, why drive at 34... the difference is minimal?

No it isn't ludicrous to to compare drink drivers and speeders, the worse thing is, some speeders are not under the influence and drive like lunatics and believe they are in control .... just what some drunk drivers say.

The German system is far more sensible; 20 mph in built up areas and no limit on the motorway where its appropriate. Lets face it, how much of your concentration on major roads is taken up watching for government cash machines.

...better still get rid of them and replace them with traffic cars as opposed to what they're doing now. but no German traffic police thank you very much .... no 'negotiating' with them blokes!!!

There will always be accidents, always has been, and every one is tragic. I myself was knocked down when I was a child and I got up and ran home. Some don't and it's heartbreaking.

However, lets not run away with the idea that fining everyone will reduce the accident rate. The advances in peformance from ordinary family saloons are legendary and the most innocuous vehicle can be weapon if driven irresponsibly. What pedestrian was Katch threatening on the M1?? If you want to find the cause of accidents on the Motorway network listen to the traffic news every half an hour. 'A lorry has broken down, a lorry has shed it's load, a lorry is on fire, a lorry has crossed the centre reservation.........' However the Government makes so much from the Road Transport Lobby that they'll never restrict their expansion.

Regrettably, kids and cars don't mix, so how about keeping your kids off the roads?? particularly those on bikes without lights this time of year.

are you female, as you just seem to be arguing for arguing sake.

in answer to your notes

1 - because i wanted too.

2 - yes it is ludicrous, there's brekaing the speed limit and there's driving without due care and attention.

do you drive?
