Got the text message this morning that Barks is signing permanently for Rotherham today.

In my opinion we should have tried to get him back given current circumstances. Lack of options up front, never gave less than 100% (unlike a certain overpaid Scottish loan Striker) and has been our top scorer on more than one ocassion.

However, the minority of Boo Boys have done their usual like they did with Steve Howard and various others over the years so you can't blame him for moving on.

sctatchinghead

Not once can i ever remember Barker being booed?

I think L1 is a step too far for him now anyway. He's not even getting a game for Rotherham at the moment, he spends most of his time on the bench.

we should be able to get a half decent player in on loan using the wages we save from off-loading him.

I don't recall Barker ever being booed by anyone. I do recall him getting slagged off by certain posters on here.

which was completely out of order too!

They moaned that giving 100% wasn't enough, then when the clearly superior ability of Kevin Kyle came in (irrelevent of what people think of this guy, he was clearly better than Barker), they moaned that he didn't give 100%.

some people just expect a Wayne Rooney type player.....and even then some wouldn't be happy

not as I remember it.
it was Wilson who was getting slagged for playing him ahead of porter when barker was clearly struggling....
opinion was at is now, that league1's a step too far for barker.

he was great for us in league2 tho yeah?!

What a load of rubbish, you don't work in the media do you? They also make up these mythical 'boo boys'.

He wasn't slagged off as such, the circumstances of his use were the subject of much debate and the ultimate responsibiliy was down to the late departed Danny boy. Now, as for actually 'slagging', players off, this is the place to do it, rather than on the pitch, when they don't need the grief. They are not above criticism however and at least any stupid comments can be shown up as just that, but, if a player is crap, or playing crap, this is the place to say it.

So we sign a player for 100k and let him leave for nowt 2 years later?

Shocking signing from a business point of view.

what has occurred to me is that Turner signs the players regardless of whether the manager wants them or not. I hope I'm wrong.

If business in football is that straight forward yeah.
Fact is Barker scored a few goals which helped us to promotion, and the year after scored a few more, and lots of penalties that didn't count, but still helped us avoid relegation. If that's bad business then paying money for any player is surely pointless?

I agree that his goals helped us to promotion and then consolidation in league one, and for that we should be grateful.

But for me at our level, if we sign a player for 100k and then he leaves 2 years later for nothing then thats just plain bad business.

Bingo.

That's the whole point about Wilson though that too many people have failed to see in spite of it being said on here (by me and others) time and time again.

Everything was short-termism to try and keep things ticking along and put him in the shop window to get another job. I can't believe he got away with it for so long. Barker, Collins, Elliott, Thompson, Antwi- the lack of "blooding" the promising youngsters and releasing them before they got a chance- he was a completecunt who's put the football club as a whole back at least 5 years.
