.... dirty holes inhabited by Faganesque characters with chained up alsatians .... now they're bigger and dirtier and everyone wears day-glo green jackets ... and they're called 'recycling centres' and seem to be Hartlepools biggest growth industry. :roll:

I remember regularly taking all manner of shite to the one at the bottom of Hart Lane. It was run by an old fella who Steptoe must have been modelled on. Won the DCM in WW1 as I remember.

* DCM - Distinguished Conduct Medal. A level two award or in other words; one down from the VC.

Yes I kept most of my earlier cars going using second hand parts from scrappies.

The Hart Lane scrappy was just round the corner from us when I was a bairn, entrance from behind in Joicey/Ridley streets.
Fooked if I can remember the name like. We used to sell him rags but no bones.

In his front window he had a Vincent 1200cc Black Shadow, a real beauty! I don't think it worked like cos it never moved. :laugh:
