What happened was...

Kyle was poor and didn't put himself about like he should. I've been there for every match he's played in apart from Northampton away and I can honestly say I've never seen him play well in a single away match. He is defintley not an away player.

Budtz shouldn't have been dropped (never thought I'd say that), our defence didn't look too great.

I am a fan of Monkhouse but he was poor.

We lacked ideas in midfield, well we completley strugged in midfield to be honest. We created very few chances and deserved to lose.

The players have to hold their hands up and say that wasn't good enough.

I am glad Turner has admitted this.

And the ref was dire, as was the linesman. The referee was bullying Rowell, he did very little wrong but conceded loads of freekicks and even got booked. I know referees have hard jobs but I can't understand some of his decisions.

On my way back from the bogs, I quite clearly saw a Scunthorpe player make a block and put it out for a corner. I was about a meter away from the linesman. It was as clear as day that it was a corner but the linesman gave a goalkick. OK mistakes can be made but he was in hysterics over it. It wasn't just giggles either, he was pissing himself with laughter. It wasn't a massive moment in the game but I just thought it was odd.

And finally the match was totally crap, it was almost as bad as watching Groundforce.

Yeah, 4/5 Scunthorpe seemed too good to be true. Quadrupled it up with Everton, West Ham and Sunderland. banghead

I thought Rowell started well, he tried to get hold of the game in the first 15/20 mins but once we started getting over run he struggled. Showed some decent flashes though.

Attendances are down everywhere, and away followings will drop a hell of a lot I reckon.

I thought we'd have loads more than 500 there today, especially as its one of the closest teams geographically in this league.

well, until Mrs P gets paid again on Wednesday we're struggling for money - I've set aside enough for tomorrow which is obviously the game I have chosen to attend instead of yesterday's.

FWIW here's what I think.

ALB - he caught the ball twice in 90 minutes and his kicking was arguably OK. It was impossible to see their second goal but the first went between his fingertips and the crossbar. Is that good?

Ritchie - pretty grim. What happened to those lovely link ups with the Monk?

Sweeney - since the right wing was the zone we neutralised best he must have been some good, but he was so much better when he reverted to his natural position. Sorry Rowell but he's still miles ahead of you.

Nelson - I thought he did all right. It wasn't central defence's fault Scunny were running straight at them all afternoon.

Collins - not as good as Nelson but was put under needless pressure all game and did quite a few clearances, if not elegant ones.

Monkhouse - did nowt all game, waste of space

Jones - got about quite a bit, had the ball quite a bit, but was pretty ineffective. Still, we were better on the right than anywhere else.

Rowell - looks the part, made some lovely passes, didn't allow himself to get pushed around ... but if he was any good how come they had the middle of the park all to themselves?

Clark - I think he was our best player and did everything he had to do well; the problem is he wasn't doing what he should have been doing (see above)

Kyle - loved him: I think we could be seeing a new Jon Daly emerge but without all that passion crap

Porter - Worked his pods off but quite honestly their defence had him in his pocket (probably because he was the only player they needed to concentrate on)

Subs

McCunnie - he alternates from brilliant to dire a bit too often doesn't he. Still, his presence allowed Sweeney to come into the game which I guess is good.

McKay - poor lad; he must be so disappointed.

In brief: we were by no means outplayed and overrun in midfield; we simply abandoned it - lock, stock and fookin' barrel.
When they got the ball in a bit of space in their box, they just took the motorway through to ours. I remember one occasion when we headed the ball away and it fell plumb in the middle of four of their waiting players who almost had time to hold a conference to see who collected the damned thing.
Scunthorpe weren't very good but they did score one proper goal, which we didn't.
