What do you think??

Worth it or just a load of fizzy white wine??

Got a decent bottle and just wondering when to drink it?

Why do people save it for a special event?

Champagne's great, but then again I've only drank it about three times in my life.
Sparkling white wine's great too, knocked back really quickly, gets you going straight away.
Not sure Champagne's worth the money personally, certainly the vast majority of it. If you're gonna drink it make sure it all goes in one, you dont wanna save any til the day after.

Wonderful stuff - a nice light headed trippy effect that lasts a fair time so all in all good value for money although I've never bought the really expensive stuff. For special occasions as even the cheaper stuff is quite expensive.

I never really liked it until we were at the Thai restaurant on the Marina last year and we bought a bottle for our friends who had just been married I had a glass and thought it was ok, but now that is the only type that I can get away with, it is averaged priced (around £25 a bottle) and the mrs said that she will get a few bottles in over Christmas. I am much happier with beer though.

Being a philistine, to me its just the same as a sparkling wine, except its from the champagne region of fr, F, f,... that place over there.

So then Cava or Asti is just as good, same volume and if poured next to 'champagne' would you know the difference?

And at least you if you buy Cava you hav'nt helped the french economy, just the spanish

BTW

You can't beat a nice bottle of Dom Perignon, although it is a little pricey for everyday drinking.

A cheaper alternative and still extremely nice is a nice Bollinger, which at only around £30 a bottle is reasonable enough not to have to save for special occassions.

Champagne and sparkling wine are the same thing (OK leave lambrusco out of it), except that to be called 'Champagne' the sparkling wine has to come from the Champagne region. Wine snobbery leads people to believe they are getting a better deal, more and more 'sparkling wines' are finding there way on to wine menus now as most people are sick of paying £30.00 + for a sparkling wine which happens to be made in frogland, when they can pay half that for the same thing made in Oz or elsewhere.

PAYING MORE FOR SOMETHING COZ ITS FRENCH? rage rage

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

banghead banghead stupid

Sorry Katcha, but your post reminded me of a friend of mine who split up with her husband a few years ago. After the separation she called round unexpectedly to pick up some things, and found him bopping about with a glass of wine in his hand, listening to Led Zeppelin. She said she couldn't help feeling that if he'd done that sort of thing a few more times while they were together, a few catastrophes could have been averted!!

Our old bass player was under some woman down in a place called Tuxford one night. She asked if he wanted some champagne and he said 'Oh yeah.'

So she pissed on him.  True.

Drink Champagne within a year of purchase - like POOLS being drawn at home in the next round of the Cup against Man U
Vintage Champers can be put aside for up tp 10 years but then you not remember you have it.

Asti and Cava are for losers their are crap

Aus and NZ fizz are excellent and great value

Champagne wonderful they are some great small produces out there you should all go and seek them out.

I am currently drinking Gobillard Premier Cru Vintage 2002 £18 a bottle worth every penny.
Many of the fields are cheek-by-jowel with Moet.

Champagne is a wonderful drink but beware of the cheap champagne brands that only appear at Christmas in Supermarkets they are horrible bland and made with poor grapes.
