Tony Parry ( the real one not Mr Tony off the bunker cos I've met him before)
Malcolm Dawes
Ron Young
Absolutely feckin legendary players from when I was a young'un
and first class, polite people
Tony Parry got a framed thing with loads of pics anf snippets from 1968/9 when he was voted player of the season ( they didn't have awards or dinners then) and I got to present him with it rolf
Now the reason I am full of it, was ( as I explained to him when we were outside havin a tab) the nearest a youngun could get to players in them days was to stand at the front and hope he ran down the wing!
I was a kid again
and by feck did I enjoy it!!

He said
Hartlepool has always been special, I have never had a bad word said to me or been in an argument, I never thought I would come back and be made to feel like royalty by the club and supporters, what a place, I love it cos of the people and they lived up to my memories which I thought might have turned into me dreaming nice things about the place! Its not dreams tho you lot are real people.

now granted thats after a few sherberts but he loved being back

Also he took great pride in telling me he still had a 32" waist  then i reminded him that he had a 68" chest tho

Here you go mate, another reason to be proud of him. Seems like he had quite a hand in saving the club.

I remember all three from when I first started watching Pools. I remember Tony Parry was also known as "Midnight". Britain wasn't so multicultural in those days. I wonder if that nickname would even be allowed nowadays.

A bloke in the Vic Lounge also said that (at the time) three of the players were known as..
The Goad, The black and the Ugly
Question then... who was the ugly?!!

i remember one game and the opposition had a coloured gentleman in their ranks and the wag of the millhouse shouted our
"smokey will give your smokey a run for his money any day " it was not racist just a compliment to tony who in my book was a top player for us
he was fast and had a great temprament that some these days would do well to copy

He was sat in the Vault having a drink well after the match had finished. Probably about midnight or 1sh. Can't remember the exact time as I was well on the way by then myself.

So what were those three doing there, Mr Paddy?
I love it when these legends drop back in, like the great Ernie did a couple of seasons ago.
