Only joel and budtz are not homegrown though, so it wont really effect teams that much at our level i think, we not really packed with foreigners.

Sky said this morning that in last weeks fixtures (non-premiership), all 72 league clubs met the 4 in 16 rule anyway...

Does the rule mean that Pools will have to have 4 players in the 16 that have been at Pools for three year prior to 21 or that they have been developed at any UK club for three years prior to 21? I can't see it as having any impact at the FL level. At most it will result in clubs having weaker benches with four kids on them. To have any teeth the rule would have to have six home grown players out of the 16.

It's the second part splod.

Though i do feel the first part you mentioned will come into effect in the near future.

The thing is there putting this rule in place at our level, when we are the clubs who are giving youth a chance, it's at the top level where this rule needs to be put in place.

Don't they have a rule similar to this up in Jockland, i think that there has to be a certain number of players who are Scottish and under the age of 23, but it looks like they have got round this rule by having 7 players on the bench instead of the usual 5

They don't have to be English, just have had to have gone through an English or Welsh clubs youth set up. Kyle went through Sunderland, Power Nottingham Forest, Boland Coventry City. McCunnie would be our only other (apart from Porter and Budtz) who didn't fall into the homegrown bracket as he came through Dundee United's ranks.

I suppose it is a start. Although it will currently have no affect whatsoever, hopefully it will be expanded. If it wasn't for football league clubs like Pools young Britsh players would have no chance. refred

Arsenal get round this rule by snapping up 15 and 16 year old foreigners, putting them through there youth system, then by the time they hit 20, there classed as homegrown, clever but sneaky.
